Comparison of Hyundai's New Genesis Coupe to the late G35 models (03 to 06)

Hey guys, first of all i'd like to say: I love the forums, there is a tonne of great information and over the past month or so I have been reading them back to front.

I however have a question.

I am in the market for a new car and have a budget of around 30k to 33k Canadian to spend all in for a car. Now in my searching I have been able to find a couple G35's 06 6MT and under 50,000 k for around 28k to 33k. The other day I was talking to a BMW dealership because my mom's car was in for maintenance and they suggested the new Hyundai Genesis Coupe. New to the market and apparently trying to get into the G35, BMW 3 series type market.

My question to you guys, warranty and all into consideration. Would you buy a brand new Hyundai Genesis Coupe (3.8 L V6) compared to a use 06 or 07 low km coupe? Please note that both of these options are really pushing the limit of my budget and if there is a cheaper alternative I'm willing to hear it.

Hyundai may have been crappy in the 90's, or maybe even into early 2000's, but they've stepped up their game and their cars perform pretty well and gets pretty good reviews across the board. I know where your "biased" comment is coming from, but you gotta look past what hyundai used to be. Genesis coupe and sedan are pretty solid cars. It's just that I can't afford the price of a new one.

Speaking of which, I saw a silver gen coupe today driving by, and boy, it was sexy. It was the first time I've seen it in person. I haven't seen too many on the road yet.

Hyundai has excellent warranty, so it sure will give you less headaches than a used G35's even with low miles. Judging by what I read and hear, infiniti cars aren't the most reliable cars. I am just hoping that my G will be problem free at least until 70k miles or till I sell it to get another toy.




By the way, genesis coupe may try to compete in mustang, g37 territory, but not quite M3. M3 is in a totally different league in my opinion.

i like the new genesis, but not as much as g35 Coupes, g35 looks better IMO.

Never buy a new car model, give the manufacturer a couple years to work the kinks out. Which is why a late model G35 is a great purchase. I've never driven a Genesis coupe, I do like the look of them. I got my 05 6mt for $24 500 canadian, $28 000 with taxes, I didn't even consider the turbo model genesis. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the 3.8L model genesis is out of your price range anyways.

I faced this dilemma earlier on in my car hunt. I would have landed the 2.0T 6MT with the track pack if I didn't have to wait 2 months for the car. It's a great car, fun to drive and the warranty is unbeatable.


Take it like this, you have the option of buying a New car (Hyundai) vs. a Used car. Obviously I ended up with the G35. I saved a bit of money, but the car has its issues that are taken care of out of my own pocket rather than a short trip to the Hyundai dealership.

Im not a Hyundai fan my self because I have yet to see them build any thing good. Infiniti/Nissan has been building geat cars,truck,vans for years ans years. I love and trust Nissan because they have never done me wrong from my first 20 Sentra that I raced up till 248k on it and sold it for a new one. Nissan/Infiniti is loved by the aftr market work and you can get any part for it if your in to modding.

But allso I do not like buying new models because they ALL have bugs and you want to see what they are first imo

Last thing, I will post up a link later. At the drift event last week in NH every Nissan out there did great! The Genesis could not slide, stop, or corner. Its still a HYUNDAI at the end of the day.

Honestly man Hyundai's quality has gotten better... the car still feels cheap, but its solid

my friends green 2.0T has 12k miles in only 4 months and the car is running fine. no problems at all

his brothers 3.8 6MT has 500+ miles so its too early to tell its only two weeks old

Honestly man the more i drive both of them im really liking them... i still hate the looks but they drive so nice

I personally liked the Genesis a little better, but that's because I drove one with 200km's on it. So naturally a new car would be firmer. But in comparison, my G wasn't far off in the tightness of it's components, and considering the G is 6 yrs older, it was pretty amazign.
