Engine swap

Engine swap
Has anyone done or heard of swapping one of the newer z motors in an 05 G? I have seen a thread somewhere else with the hr swap and it just needed a bigger hood, engine mounts, and a harness. The reason I ask is my kids won't fit into a z and I would like to save money and keep my G. The only catch is that I don't like the motor that is in it. I prefer the newer vq motor. On the opposite side of my statement the question of cost is also there. Meaning, would it be cheaper to get a g37s instead? I am still currently on the fence of what to do with this car. Keep and mod or get a new g?

Well tell my browser what a simple search is. lol I have not found much on the subject and I have not found much on YouTube. I see alot of V8 swaps, but not what I want to do. I did find one thread on here that was done in 2009ish,

I also found a link to another post on a 350 forum: http://my350z.com/forum/6813196-post60.html
I am still doing alot of research so if it does end up being cheaper than getting a new car I will just finish off my loan and keep modding. I did just purchase my G which is why I am hesitant to jump into another one. That and I know my wife would freak out if I drove home in a different car.. maybe she won't notice if I get the same color.. lol I am still looking at my options..
What do you know about the swap? I know that I will need the motor and I am going to need that mess of cables to connect everything.. I just can't do a 37 right because of a budget crisis.. I need that extra 15k before I even look at another toy/baby. Off the wall, but do you know how to push floor boards down? Yeah I am a newb. This is my second unibody and first service since I had the car all of a couple months.

You need basically everything. If you cannot afford a G37, then you definatly cannot afford a VQ37 swap. It will cost more and in the end, a G35 with VQ37 will still be worth less than a stock G37. Basically pointless work for 30hp. It would be much cheaper, easier, and more powerful to buy a used supercharger kit.
Push floor boards down? Like in your house? Hard wood floor or carpet?

Well let's just say a guy not very knowledgeable on unibody bs pushed his floor boards up. Mistaking the black dot referring to the jack points as a flat spot on some sheet metal... I was not aware I needed the special adaptor of some sort for my jack.as far as the swap I think if done it would allow more potential for growth and I would have the motor I want and would not have to get a new car. I'm not fully committed yet, but I will keep doing research.

As far as the floorboards, grab a hammer and reverse your mistake.

im a big surprised noone asked the simple question " why do u like the 37VHR more than the HR or DE"
that would help in offering any type of advise.
I mean the engine is extremely reliable and u can put 500hp into it if that is your goal. Like other people said its alot of work for not much more HP. you can build the engine you have and possibly get everything you want AND MORE for the same price if not cheaper.
that would help in offering any type of advise.

You are correct in that. I have only seen classic muscle cars in great shape that sold for a decent amount that had been modified or had motor swap. Now the question to consider is why you want to keep it. So if I still wanna keep this car and make it my tinkering project after I pay it off well cool if not that is cool too. As long as I have a reason to keep it then its worth it.. If I decide that my g is not worth keeping then I won't do the swap..
