Gutted only one Cat and WOW!!!

So i was forced to gut out a clogged cat that almost set my G on Fire !!! Gutting the Cat took me a total of 5hrs with trial and error methods but i took pictures the entire time so if you guys are looking to do it ill post progress pictures and just things i came across to help you try and avoid.

Anyway, what i want to talk about is the way it sounds, KEEP IN MIND ! I hate ricer fart cans and i hate when G35s exhaust are too loud and with crazy rasp.

We all love our stock sound and well this definitely ups it to be a tad louder and with a bit more aggression . I would dare say it sounds very very very similar to a nismo exhaust . I will post a video of how it sounds tomorrow night but imho i will consider leaving it like this because of how sexy it sounds.

(also i kept all the metals inside i wonder if the scrap yard will still take them?) I got 120 for a civic complete one last year.

I know a lot you will say why didnt you just buy a test pipe.

- because its my daily driver and my car wouldn't even stay on because of how clogged it was. Possibly a little over a week without work.
-its was going to take a least a week to find some good cats or test pipes and have them shipped. Cats=$350+ Test pipes/high flow cat=$125-350
-Gutting perhaps a busted up partially melted core cat converter. $0

I honestly have never heard or seen of anyone gutting just one i seen a youtube video with 2 gutted and i honestly didnt like it .. it was way too loud for a daily and lots of rasp. kinda sounds stupid to do just one but it sounds really great on the car. No Dash light indicators on (i didnt have to remove any sensors though), wondering if it might pop on but im not too sure.. There is a tad smell because there is no longer a honey comb to intercept it obviously but not too bad. The left exhaust that had the clogged cat pipe seems to be throwing out air and is felt from about 7-10 inches while the right one is more like 4-7. As for performance I think it gave it a little more punch as well but not anything crazy of course.

Some people like oem fits and modding without changing things up in appearance perhaps for some states.

Are there any Cons to this?

Cons: failing emissions (if applicable) and throwing a code if non-fowlers aren't used.

You should probably finish the job and gut the other one.

Now you have 3 cylinders running with no restriction and 3 with a CAT. Do the other side, not just one. Most times both cats get clogged, not just one side.

EDIT:
Just saw your other thread and the right side cat is most definitely glowing and probably clogged as well. Just replace with hi-flow cats and call it a day.

You can't drive on gutted cats and pass emissions, or drive on one gutted cat and have your G run right! Check your local and state laws, most states allow HFCs, if they don't Magnflow sells OE cats that will cost you considerably less than what the Stealership will sell them for. Fast Intention sells quality HFCs that sound great!

Agree with others, gut the other one or buy high flow cats.

Also agree with you - it's not huge, but the difference is noticable (and fun!) when you remove cats/switch to HFCs.
