Coolant

This may be a stupid question but if my coolant reservoir is almost empty I'm assuming I should get my coolant flushed and replaced very soon correct? Or is there enough running through the radiator and engine for a little while

Your coolant should be changed every two years. You should also top off your reservoir regularly, as coolant is subject to evaporation.

Reasonable evaporation. This doesn't happen quickly. Top it off and keep tabs on it.

Room for expansion, there is a lot of coolant there.

Questions aren't stupid! How else are you going to learn?

Blakearold, welcome to the G35 Driver Forums! One very easy way to find out if you have fluid in your radiator is to open the cap after your car a set/cold for a few hours. If the radiator fluid hasn't been replace in the past two years now would be a good time! When you get your oil changed (every 3K miles) the mechanic should be checking all fluid levels along with tire pressure, which is a law in most states!

That's only a law in California.

also, with today's modern engines and oils, the 3K oil change rule is nothing but an old wives tale handed down from grandpa.

I'd never run the car with no coolant showing in the expansion tank. No telling how low the rest of the system is. It's too hot these days to risk an overheat.

Shouldn't have to fill it that often, a few ounces between oil changes. If it's dropping more than that, look for a leak.

Wouldn't hurt to just drain and fill it, should be done every few years anyway. Some antifreeze is rated to last 10 years, not that I would wait that long, but 2 years may be a bit of a waste. Doesn't cost much though, in time or money.

Just FYI, when I drained/filled mine, had a little trouble at idle getting coolant to the heater coil. There is a vent valve above it that you have to "burp" to make sure you get all the air out. No big deal. Pretty easy to do, there is a drain plug on the bottom of the radiator, just "dispose of it properly".

Thanks guys. I took off the radiator cap and right under it is a nice clear green fluid so I think I caught it just in time. I just took out the reservoir, cleaned it and filled it to max. I'll be keeping close tabs

Is there a video or post with instructions how to change and burp coolant system? I never changed mine and I have an 04 coupe with 63k miles so it sounds like I should change it. I'm also getting warm AC when idling for a few minutes and my temp was rising so I'm hoping this will fix it... Any suggestions are appreciated.
