Door motors

Hey guys, I recently bought an 03 coupe with only 76,000 miles(rich guy bought a new toy lol). Ive had for a little over a month and my passenger window goes down very sluggish, but raises fine, my door locks are iffy and just today the door handle on the driver side(exterior) will not open the door. Is it normal for these things to start "acting out" for a car this old even though it has low mileage? It was garage kept btw if that makes any difference.

about the windows it prob is the brushes in the window motor getting worn. replacement is easy if you are handy with a soldering gun.

about the locks not too sure. your door handle, something prob broke. they are made of plastic and as they age they get brittle and crack very easily. take your door apart and see what broke and replace needed part from there.

There are a few threads around here on how to fix these problems. In short, YES these are very common for the 1 gen coupes. I've had my car since June 2004 and it's spent a total of 26 days NOT in a garage, doesn't matter!! I'm on my 3rd driver's motor, 2nd passenger motor, and I did the hi power lock hack for the driver's side also. There's a DIY on fixing the door lock where you use a $10 12V hi power lock actuator, tied into the G's wires. For the window motor, you shouldn't need a soldering gun, just screw drivers, and a 10mm socket wrench (ratcheting to make your life easier). You can pull the motor out, open it up and use Q-Tips to clean the copper contacts with electrical cleaning spray or brake fluid and regrease the gears with white lithium grease. You'll see a bunch of carbon dust, or CRUD covering the contacts which seems to weaken the motor, going down, going up, or most of the times, both ways. MOST of the time this works and you can get maybe another 1-3 months of normal use out of it. However, eventually it will crap out again, so you may as well just get a new rebuilt one from Ebay which I've done, thrice times now (I started just getting pairs of them)..... One hallmark seems to be the window will eventually stop operating in the DOWN position only!! LOL
