G35 Navi possibilities

Hello so I have a base model 05 g35 coupe and I was wondering if it would be possible to install the Navi package on my vehicle and how I would go about doing it. Thanks for the help.

G35 Navi possibilities

I'm not even sure if it's possible. head over to best buy or something and buy a gps system that'll stick to your window

No.

(OK, it IS possible, but the work involved is not worth it, nor in your skillset if you have to ask)

Your best option is to either goto Best Buy and get the ones that attach to the window.

Or get an aftermarket deck and grab a double din unit that is GPS capable.

It is not worth that hassle to try and do that. When I bought my car, the person before me hardwired a smaller garmin gps unit in the space of the storage on top of the radio (where the dash would be). I think it was a neat idea because you can still flip it up and down like a pop up navi.

You could also get a mounted in gps and put it somewhere or an aftermarket radio with gps built in.

The nav was out-dated, slow and low res when new. And they want $200/yr to update the maps (though you can get bootleg DVDs on eBay).

But anything is possible. These cars were "assembled" not "crafted" I'd start by studying the FSM and especially the wiring diagrams. If that looked promising next up would be a trip the salvage yard.

If you take the plunge be sure to create a project build thread!

The stock navigation sucks. You will hate yourself for going through all the effort to get it in your car. The only thing I ever use it for is tracking fuel economy and oil changes but never for actually guiding me to places.

Your android or I-Phone navigation works 10x better and doesn't require you to purchase an overpriced DVD to keep it updated... not to mention that the stock unit doesn't handle real-time traffic rerouting and avoidance.

I think I said this before: its a decade old Nav system. Can't expect it to be competitive with today's modern Nav systems.

The old navigation was built in 05 (or before), when flip phones were still cool, touch screens were rare, and HD screens were pricey.

To the OP, just buy an aftermarket double din screen + kit.

I priced it out before when I considered having a modern stereo/nav screen on mine. I was quoted $800 at Bestbuy ($300 for the touch screen DD unit + $500 kit and install).

Or just use any modern smartphone's Navigation app.

yes it's possible.

No it's not worth it.

I have the factory navigation in my G35. Screen stays down, and I use Waze on my Iphone exclusively. Factory nav sucks and slow to use and overpriced to update.

Does Waze use a ton of data? I've been using Here maps for thd past year. It's real cool and even has store maps for inside malls and stuff too.

Just installed Waze and wiill check that out too.

It's not that much. I use it for my morning and evening commute. I'm in the car about 1 hr each way and it might be 200-300MB a month for Waze data?

However, it's reduced my commuting time a lot by routing me around traffic. Plus I can't tell you the number of speed traps it's alerted me to that I slowed down in time for.

I don't think I've used my OEM GPS in over a year. Oply time I pop the screen up is when I do an oil change and need to reset the reminders.
