Help with exhaust welding

So hey guys. I was planning on buying a cat back system for my g. But as I have heard most of some bad drone issues. So I heard that changing to a x pipe would be most reccomended. But now here's were I messed up. The inlet size for the catback system is 2.25 apparently and the magnaflow x pipe I bought was 2.5. From what I know there gonna have to weld out the h and put the x pipe in replace. I wanted to know if it's gonna be a problem that it's different size and am I gonna have to get the same size to make sure it works good.
