G35 Coupe vent noise, rear panel passenger side?

Hi all
I have recently acquired a 2003 G35 coupe, finally back to G again after almost a decade

The engine runs strong, but the interior is a mess.. really really dirty, so what i have been doing in the past few days is cleaning, taking out the backside and the rear panel for deep scrubbing (the previous owner had kids sitting in the back and they sure left their mark)

Now that i have finish scrubbing the side panels, i put them back on and drove it to work today, (back seat not put back yet) i noticed this noise that sounds like air vent, i thought it was noise coming from the speaker but it wasn't. this is only coming from the rear passenger side. and only comes on if the engine is on.

I took off the panel in front of my office, tried to locate where exactly the noise was coming from, but it seems to be coming from inside the metal plate

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing the noise?
Thanks!

like you will hear the noise with the engine on and you parked? was it on a windy day? i know the seals around the windows dont seal very well.

Hi, thanks for the reply

No it's not windy at all, i was actually in my garage.
Maybe i'm just paranoid, maybe after i put the backseat on the noise wont' be heard

As soon as the engine is on, the noise starts, not too loud but it was this constant vent/air hissing sound. the noise level doesn't change with speed either.

What's weird is, this is only coming from the passenger side, not the driver side. Makes me really curious what's behind the metal plate.. i'll probably dig into that tonight

It's the fuel system releasing pressure built up from the return lines. You can hear it outside the car too in that area cycling on and off with the engine running.

If it's the same noise that I'm thinking of, then yes it's normal. Is it an on and off hissing kinda noise?

Maybe post a video?

yes it is the hissing noise that's on and off, took it for a test drive around the block,
the volume lowered as soon as i go into first gear, as soon as i engage clutch the hissing sound goes back to normal again.. so i assume (or hope) this is normal.

the car has 130k miles, will be going into the shop for tune up soon so i wanna put everything back before that (instead of letting the seats sit in the garage and collect dust)

Thanks for the reply, i'll be posting pictures of my G soon

Yes man... it's normal then. Most G owners notice this at some point during the early stages of ownership and question what it is. Good luck with the car!
