Cooling fan operation

My '06 G35 only seems to have one cooling fan operating. What are the operating conditions for the cooling fan?

When I turn the A/C on the passenger side fan comes on but the driver's side stays off. Is the driver's side fan only suppose to come on if the engine temperature or A/C pressure reaches a certain point or do I have a defective fan?

I've heard the fan motors are common to go bad. An aftermarket motor made by TYC is about $50 but I would like to confirm fan operation and do some basic checks of the fuses/relays before I replace the motor.

Front and rear cameras, tire pressure for all four tires can display on screen, folding side view mir
You can find the info you are looking for in the FSM
http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/G35/Seda...5_Sedan/co.pdf

See page CO-021
Cooling fans are controlled by ECM. For details, refer to
EC-526, "
DTC P1217 ENGINE OVER TEMPERA-
TURE"

Check the voltage at the fan. Most likely a defective fan
Replace both of them

The ECM controls the cooling fan corresponding to the vehicle speed, engine coolant temperature, refrigerant temperature, and air condition ON signal. The Fan system has a 3-step control [HIGH/LOW/OFF].

See the linked image for specifics of how the fan is supposed to operate based on various conditions:

This is for an '03... probably the same for an '06.

I have a multimeter to make some checks.

How would I go about doing a voltage test on the fan motor?

Have you even looked at the FSM in the link that I provided in my previous post? (Start on Page EC-531)

Don't take this the wrong way but the fact that you are asking how to perform a voltage check on the fan motors when that information is clearly shown in the FSM leads me to believe you would probably be better off leaving the troubleshooting to a professional.

Yes, I did as a matter of fact. But there is no information on testing from that link as the section EC-531 does not come up when I click on the link in section CO 21.
