Replacement Key

Hi,
I just bought a 2003 Skyline. The car came with one key but it doesn't work. I press the lock and unlock and nothing happens, no sound etc. I also bought a new battery for the key but still no luck. The car can start though.

My question is, if the key doesn't work am I able to replace it with one of those blanks keys from amazon? Also will I be able to program one of those FOB?

You can program the fob yourself.. You can find the procedure in the forums.. The key will need to be done by a locksmith or a dealer though.

Cool, thanks. I wasn't sure with the key not working if it was an issue with the key or the car locking mechanism. But for the price of the fob I'll take the chance. I'm hoping it's the key as being able to open and lock remotely would make life easier. I hate having to lean over and lock and unlock.

So a regular locksmith can do the key? Is there anything special they need? I live in the Cayman Islands so options are limited. I'll make some calls, thanks again.

Does the key turn in the door and in the ignition?

If the locksmith works on modern cars, they should have the tech to program the key. They just need to be able to program transponder keys and decode nissan supercode.

Not looking good. I've called a few places and all said they can't. If I brought my key to the US could I get it done or do they need the car as well?

Can anyone confirm if I were to bring my car key to the US that the key could be programmed there without the car? I haven't found any place locally that can do Nissan's, there isn't a Nissan dealership here. Toyota, Ford, Mercedes etc can all do for their respective cars.

I have no clue if an American dealer could reprogram the key at all. Might be worth a call to one to check.

Update, I found a place locally that can do it. Key doesn't have a remote, but my current remote doesn't work anyhow so no big deal. Cost is about US$ 180. Roughly $150 for the service and $30 for the key.

So I'll do that. Then I'll get the door actuators so that I can actually unlock the passenger door without having to lean over.
