2008 G35 with Techno package - Cruise control and wipers

Hi all,

I have a little annoyance. I have a 2008 G35 with the technology package. When it rains lightly I will not be allowed to turn on the cruise control if the wipers are working. If the wipers are not working and I have the cruise control turned on, I turn on the wipers and after a while the cruise control disengages.

Has anyone experienced this? Is there a way around this?

Guy

You should NOT be using cruise control in the rain for safety precautions

If that was the case, the NTSB and every other car advocate agency including Ralph Nader would have had the cruise control and the wiper switch interlocked so that the cruise cannot be engaged simultaneously. Millions and millions of cars have a cruise control and are not interlocked. Enough with morality.

I think it has to do with the fact that the G35 has a smart cruise control and rain would false the distance reading of the sensor.

Hold down the On/Off button to override ICC and utilize standard CC.

The problem is the ICC radar cruise rays will not be working precisely under bright sunlight or rain or when the sensor was dirty ...in either case the ICC will beep and shut off....this is for our safety only...
As 'treacherous' said..you can still use standard CC...

Or, I set my intermittent wipers to the fastest setting which allows for the ICC to still function. If the wipers need to be any faster than that, you shouldn't be in cruise anyway.

Using some simple thinking, you would realize that in heavy rain (the car assumes you're in a decent amount of rain when you put your wipers on the LOW setting or higher), the rain could block the radar sensing cruise control and the car could mistake large water droplets as a vehicle. This would be a far higher annoyance IMO.

Anywho, the way around it is to simply hold the "ON/OFF" CC button and it'll turn on the cruise control, however, the radar function will be disabled so the car will not know if there is an object in front of it or not.
