05 Keyless Start to 06 Pushbutton?

Is it possible to convert the keyless ignition switch on a 2005 G35 Sedan to the push button type for 06 and beyond?

06 doesn't have a push button but as far as converting your 05 intelligence key to the push button start it hasn't been done by any of us 05/06 guys. You would probably be better off just getting a remote starter instead.

I did mean 07....the older I get the less I try to keep up with dates. I just thinks its cools to see the 'Push to Start' button. I read somewhere that someone had done this and now I can't find the post. Thanks!

I would pay to get a push button start...I'm sure it wouldn't be cheap though.

push to start buttons are so nice, but there probably will be some problems with it in the long run.
plus it will probably be alot of money, just get a viper auto starter.

I think it could be done. You'll need one of the adapters that aftermarket alarm systems use that takes a spare key so the computer thinks the key is in the ignition. After that you'll just need to find the starter wires from the key switch and rig a relay to them. You might be able to use a DFI starter module from a DFI remote start system. It has all the necessary relays and is triggered by a contact closure from the main alarm module. You just wire it to the pushbutton you'll use to start the car.

It can be done. You just need a wiring diagram. I did it in my cobra (although not as sophisticated the the G), but it should only take a relay or two, dremmel or hole saw, little bit of solder or push on connections, and the button itself with an inline fuse.

If the 07 has it, you can start by comparing the wiring in the diagram between the 05 and 07 to see what wires it uses.

I also added a push button to my old '97 Accord. Very easy to wire, got the push button kit from the "ricer" section at Autozone for I think around $25-30. I wired mine up so that you had to insert the key into the ignition before the push button would work.....didn't want someone driving off with my car! But as someone said above, this was nowhere near as sophisticated as the '07 G35.

If you have the I-Key on your '05, you should be able to replace the turn **** with a push button. Same concept. It should work with a little ingenuity.

The push button would be the easiest part of the whole job. . . Problem is you need the electric ignition lock that unlocks the steering wheel with a servo, not sure if the '07 one would fit in place of the manual one in the 05/06 G. The 05/06 G uses that **** to start the car, all the intelligent key does is once the system sees the fob in the car it unlocks the cylinder allowing you to turn it. when you turn it the steering wheel lock releases. Adding a button is possible but you would still have to turn the **** 2 clicks, might as well turn it one more and start it.. lol

You are right. You have to turn the key to the ON position no matter what with the aftermarket kit available now. You will tap into the other wires needed. So your not really disconnecting anything. It wasn't a big deal, and was really cool to have the push start. I got a lot of props for it and even helped do a couple of my friends cars as well.

It is worth it IMO!

If you go to auto innovatio you can get a factory looking push to start for $240 and you will not need a key and you can install it were your ignition key is, and all you will need would be your key fob or remote.
