I just checked my plugs. I believe #6 plug had oil pooling and #1 plug seemed to have oil at valve cover. My car had a date of 03/04 and has 59k. I should still be under warranty?

same boat unfortunately for me too. I'm only at 37k but it's an 05. I'm not sure of the manufacture date, but I'm also not around my manual to check the powertrain warranty. it was down a quart of oil at the last change too, i suppose i'll knock two birds out with one stone when i visit the dealer soon.

update. When i took my car in i also had them check for a little knock the engine was making. They have had my car for 3 wks now. They are replacing the long block under warranty. I want to say it was a lifter sticking but they dont know for sure. Looks like im good for a few more miles now. Also the service manager said they dont replace the valve covers to fix the pooling but just the gaskets. We will see when i pick it up

I thought there was no way to do this and you have to replace the whole thing.

At least that's what I read if I remember correctly.

FYI VQ's and a lot of Nissans use Shim over bucket system. No lifters there.

told them that i read that they couldnt change the gaskets but had to replace the covers so i thought but the sevice manager said they could change them. He said it was a gasket kit that had 3 gaskets plus the valve cover gasket. So we will see. I have a few more months and another 10k miles to go on warranty so ill deff check before its up.

Picked up car today. Paper work says the oil pump failed which cause the scoring of the camshaft lobes from the lack of oil pressure. All i can say is i got a new long block for nothing. Am very pleased. They didnt replace the valve cover gaskets because it came with new ones.

Valve cover oil leak

Hello, this is my first post here! Proud new owner of 2005 G35x 65,000 miles. I also pulled my number six coil pack today and low and behold OIL. I already have an appointment for next week. Thank god you guys are here posting otherwise I never would have checked this!

Should we be stirring up some dust at Infiniti as to why a better design/ produced valve cover is not available, and could this be headed towards a recall (I know someone mentioned that already)? Who is to say that these valve covers do not start leaking right from the factory? And are mine going to slowly start leaking again after they put on the new valve covers so they can "patch" this problem till my powertrain warranty is up? Thanks guys!!!

We probably should say something, but those issues are reported to them anyways when you get serviced for it. Even though, they fixed it (according to them). I'm going to check again after a 1000 miles or so. To make sure.
