Blown Transmission - 2006

Hello, I have a 2006 Sedan and just got word from the dealership that my automatic transmission is blown (no reverse and metal shavings in the oil). They want $5K+ for parts and labor which is insane. Given that I do this myself, I have seen transmissions for $500 on eBay. I will be calling local junkyards in hopes of finding one close to me but if I can't source one, would buying one from eBay be fine? If so, do earlier model transmissions from both G35s and 350Zs (2003 - 2005) work?

Last but not least, I did an engine swap in my Integra back when I was in highschool and have since not done anything with cars. I realize that replacing a transmission is up there in terms of difficulty but is it something that one can do with a little bit of common sense? I've tried searching for guides to get an idea of the work required but have come up short.

If you guys have any feedback/suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated.

Download a FSM from this link. http://psedog.com/cars/fsm/g35/ It'll have the transmission replacement procedure. Not sure what other transmissions would be compatible but I would think any from the 04-06 sedans, 04-07 coupes and 04-07 350's would be potential matches. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in.

Thanks for the prompt reply and for the FSM.

After calling an independent transmission dealer, I have one additional question. Is this a drop in procedure or does the TCM need to be reprogrammed?

RWD transmissions aren't particularly hard to replace. Would highly suggest you replace the seals on the one you put in and consider a shift kit as well. No idea if there is a higher stall torque converter option for a G35.

Not sure the TCM would need to be reprogrammed but I bet the FSM talks about it.

RWD trans swaps are pretty straightforward. Do yourself a favor and rent a trans floor jack (or check CL for one as tools like this frequently pop up when guys use them one time) and h ave a buddy
