***SOLVED***Transfercase removal / AWD light is ON / C1204 C1210 codes

Recently purchased a 05 g35x AWD but the AWD is on and found that the Electric Solenoid Inside the Transfercase isn't sending a signal plus it is build into the TC and the case has to be removed unfortunately. Also feel like the ECM is limiting the throttle as well.

I had a look at the electric connection in the TC and seems like the when i disconnect he harness, i can spin the sensor in either direction and when i remove the retainer clip it goes in and out a little? I wonder what would happen if i tried to pull out the connector out to see if the wires are damaged? WOuld the fluid come out? Does any one know?

My plan is to remove the old TC and put in a good used one but has anyone ever done the removal?

Does the exhaust have to come out? Y-pipe? O2 sensors? Cross members?

Not much info on the forum since i searched.

Thanks guys

Since no one offered any help i decided to look into this much deeper..

I manged to buy a used local TC for $260 and managed to swap it in. The install was bit of a pain in ars but luckily i managed to disconnect the Pass side Y pipe and used the jack to guide the TC into place.

Went for a test drive and still same codes C1204 (Motor solenoid not responding) and C1210 (no signal from ECM)

I got really pissed and located the AWD contol unit and opened it up and had a look at the circuit board.

I couldn't believe my eyes when i saw one of the transistors totally cooked which explains C1210 and then would not engage the Solenoid so it threw C1204

Managed to pick up a used AWD box for $45 and plugged it in and wow, AWD light was gone and all codes disappeared.

SO i ended up with a low mileage TC and a good laugh after all this.

Cheers and God Bless..

Good to know. Glad when people come back and post their fixes. Hopefully this turns up in a search for someone who is having the same issue.

Where did you locate the AWD control unit?

Where did you locate the AWD control unit?

It is located under the steering column and easily accessible and looks like a silver square box.

This is the exact issue I have!

I have looked everywhere for someone with the same problem. Thank you for posting this even though no one answered you. I greatly appreciate it! I will try your suggestions and hopefully that will solve it. Thanks again.

I just got my codes back from the Nissan dealer for my 08 G35X and found this post. Looking for the part tonight and will update after I replace it. Thanks for the info!

1. Checked fuses2. Replaced transfer case fluid with the good Nissan stuff3. Paid my local Nissan dealer to replace and reprogram the AWD module (under/behind the glove box for my 2008)
C1204 4wd solenoid
C1205 4Wd actuator relay
C1210 engine signal 1

And the dealer said they are still getting these same codes as before.. the clip was broken on the "new" module I got on ebay so they put the original back in. I opened up the eBay module to see if it has any damage but everything looks fine. The dealer mentioned they also opened up my original module to check it as well and still no visible damage...

Where do I go from here? Just get a new transfer case? A friend of mine has a shop and car lift so we could manage installation. But will it need reprogrammed after installed?
The seller on eBay mentioned the new module has to be reprogrammed to the car specifically. Is this true or can the modules just be replaced *****-nilly no computers?
Nissan dealer charged me $240 to try the other AWD module 💀

G37
I have the same problem with my G37, I have replaced the AWD module but he AWD trouble light is still on and now shows code C1204 for the solenoid. Seems like I would also have to change the transfer case, any thoughts? do you know if I can change the solenoid / electronic coupling only?

I found this video of an AWD transfer case breakdown and it just happens to be the "same" transfer case as ours and somewhere about half way he shows the electrical connection from the inside and it appears it can only be removed or repaired by taking the entire case apart. I'm realizing as I type this that I believe my wires have come undone inside the case because the video shows 2 wires, 1 for temp sensor and another for ground maybe idk. Point being, I can spin the connection plug from the outside FREELY and infinitely, meaning the wires aren't twisting up because they aren't plugged in!! 🤯
