Hr y-pipe, should I buy it at this price?

Hello, so I have a 2004 g35x and I was looking to get an hr y pipe, and found someone on Craigslist who has one from a 2008 350z which had 60k miles ish, and was originally asking 175 but dropped it to 155, then I talked to him and he said 170 to drive halfway to me (helps a lot, as I kinda don't feel like driving into another state and into a city) then he offered 160 to drive it out about 40 minutes from me and 140 if I picked it up. What do you guys think, I know these are getting harder to come by, but does this price seem fair? Btw it looks like it's in pretty damn good condition.

How long ago was that though, they seem to be extremely rare now and especially for cheap. What's your model and what kind of improvement did you get if any? Also if you have put on a plenum spacer, how would you compare the two dollar for dollar?

Well it was last summer and I have a 03 sedan. Slight improvement but if your gonna spend 165 for an hr pipe you might as well get a spacer. Better investment and better gains

I have a hr pipe and a coupe midpipe. Pretty good combo. Sounds good and a small performance boost. Spacer is next on my list as well

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods
OP save your money and don't buy the HR Y. The X models already have a similar pipe and changing to the HR version will do nothing for you in terms of sound/performance. Buy a spacer instead and be happy with the small gain you will get.

And to the rest of the posters in this thread it's never been confirmed on a dyne as far as I know that the HR Y and/or the coupe midpipe produce any HP gains so please do your research thoroughly before posting questionable facts.

I found a thread the other day where someone dyno'd with and without one and proved to have hp gains especially passed 4K rpms and up, but God knows I'll be able to find it again as I've been looking at countless threads every day

An X model though? The Y-pipe on the X is not the same as the RWD and similar to the HR pipe anyway.

Spend your money elsewhere.

The y-pipe on the X and on AWD FX35's is pretty much the same as an HR y-pipe. Crawl under your car and look. OP is better off finding a coupe mid-pipe or spending money on other performance parts.

Keep checking eBay and local pick and pulls. You're bound to find one cheap

6 speed G35 sedan
Is there a good after market version? On the Honda J series V6 engines, there are after market J-pipes that make decent gains. Similar to a Y-pipe but turned 90 degrees.

Why are you replacing your y-pipe? If it's rusted thru or broken HR y-pipe is a good replacement, check our Market place under private classified for one near you. How much do they cost new from our vendors on Market place, consider you'll be driving that distance to pick up one that's used...Gary
