$99 Navteq Map Updates

Hey guys,

Not sure if this has already been discussed here, but in case it hasn't i d like to share that i got a letter a week back by Infiniti for Map Updates sale for only $99 for everyone through Navteq Infiniti, looks like a good buy and i might be doing this before the deal expires on June 30th. Keep in mind that the update has to be installed by the dealer so that would be around $50-80 depending on your dealer.

i got a similar letter last week and am strongly considering purchasing the update. i hadn't heard about the dealer install requirement though - why do they need to install it? the flyer i received said you just have to put the DVD in the nav system and follow the onscreen instructions. is there a different install procedure for the newer Gs?

wow, the flyer i received reads nothing like that.

i just went to the website and put in both a 2005 coupe and a 2009 coupe. the 2005 update reads just like my flyer while the 2009 update includes the notice you posted. looks like there must be a big difference between our systems which precludes self-install. do the newer systems still utilize CDs for updates or is it a direct file transfer you can only do at the dealership?

The letter i received said it was a dvd but inside the green box where it says "It's easy to update your map:" it has that note for having your dealer install the update, that is if you got the same letter as mine.

and yes only the dealer can install this.

The older Infinti and Nissan used a DVD or CD to update but they found a way to make $100 for doing pratically nothing by making it a direct download by the dealership computer. I hope that someone finds a hack for this... See the attached PDF from the Navteq site.

Thanks to the OP for posting. I never got the flyer, wtf?

I know its pretty sad to be ripped off like that, i sent an email to navteq a couple months stating that since the the new cars use the HDD navi we have to pay the dealer a hefty $80-100 just for the install which makes the update worth over $200, while for the older versions we could just get the dvd for $130 period.

Im guessing more people might have complained about it as well so they reduced the price thorough out their update line including the DVD's to get people to buy legal copies rather than download online and then to get more of the HDD navi folks to buy in as well...

i will have to recall my dealer and see what their rate will be since i was quoted $65 a year back and judging by other members post it should be around a $100 now

I think they just reduce the price as the year goes on. That's what they did with last year's version.

$99 map upgrade

I got the code for $99 and paid the dealer $119 for the install. In less than two weeks I have found two addresses not in the database. Both public places, one seven years old and the other two years old. Both were in my $89 Garmin! Navteq is ripping us off and Infiniti is allowing it. We need to put a stop to this.
