Tach illumination flashing

Just noticed it this morning. I actually "saw" it last week, but thought it was glare but it's not.

When looking at the tach, saw the area around the 5-8k markings flicker. It's really intermittent, so having the dealer troubleshoot this will be fun. Banging on the top of the cluster will not replicate the problem.

Anyone else have this problem?

no problems here, not sure what kind of light source is used in the cluster but my guess would be failing leds maybe?

Ya, prob a LED behind there. I actually saw it clearly a minute ago, it was the segment from 5 to 7, went out entirely while the rest stayed illuminated. Gotta be a bad bulb.

no its just the 5-7rpm range, so it has to be a b ad bulb/led

The temp gauge flickered at the same time. Maybe the cluster's bad.

Battery is new, yellow top Optima

Hah, got a few pics this morning, in darkness and after the sun rose. Seems to be doing it more often, unfortunately, but at least I have something to show the SA when I take it in.

I'll upload it later, for some reason my work computer's network won't let me upload to photobucket.

^ nice work getting pics that should help you make sure they fix it and not return the car saying "could not replicate the problem"

Well, I called and made an appt for next week. I explained the problem to the SA, and that it was intermittent, but also that I had a picture of the problem in case they "couldn't find it" lol.

He did say they may have to keep the car overnight (I was trying to do two things at once when he said that, so I don't recall exactly why).

thats not good... but at least u got a good pics while at idle and running, should have no problem getting a new cluster cause im guessing that would be less work for them than to change out the leds.

Yeah had the same problem with my dashlights. The dealership had to replace the whole instrument cluster. Thank goodness it was still under warranty. Not sure what the out of pocket price would be but it couldn't be cheap. Not to mention having to take the whole dash apart!

Yeah that looks like a burned out bulb to me...

I would be more afraid of the 16.4mpg i read from the gauge cluster..

lol

Good luck getting it fixed... Let us know what the dealer says it is officially.

LOL, it usually hovers around 15'ish as I do a lot of "stop and go" driving over short distances.
