Lol, melting dashboard and steering wheel
My 2007 G35 Sedan is starting to disintegrate. Only at 70K miles. Have extended warranty until 2016. Live in southern Cali. Steering wheel top part is melting off. Its very sticky while driving. Top part of the dashboard also is melting off. It has a shiny look to it and it very sticky. Will try to see if Infiniti will cover this under extended warranty. If not please advise how to get rid off the stickiness and stop further degradation.

LOL...you think this is funny?
Infiniti should cover this under your warranty...I wouldn't it's called normal wear from neglect! So for the past 70K miles your sedan has been left out in the SoCal weather without as much as a windshield shade...what did you expect would happen to your interior? I can guarantee your paint has also suffered, faded and the clear will begin to flake off shortly. If your interior is covered under warranty and fixed, buy a sunshade or even a car cover to protect your sedan!

Huh. My '07 mostly sits in the garage, but if I do leave it out in the sun or heat, the dash also gets shiny/sticky. No visible residue comes off on a rag, and the sheen wipes off. I've tried a bunch of cleaner/protectants like 303 and various Meguiars and Griot's stuff with no success. The dash hasn't deteriorated at all, at least to my eye. It's just kind of gross, and a sun shade doesn't make a bit of difference.
I don't think the car did this when I bought it (used, a couple of years ago). The PO got it detailed at Infiniti regularly, so maybe whatever they use for dash protectant is the key.
My wheel leather is fine though.

Question for those with a sticky dash - is your windshield OEM? It looks like mine may have been replaced at some point, and doesn't appear to be UV blocking like the other windows. I wonder if that has something to do with it. The tops of the door panels are fine and never get sticky. If that's the same material as the dash, it may be related to direct UV exposure.
I cleaned it thoroughly (Zymol leather/vinyl cleaner) and reapplied 303 to half of the dash as an experiment. Result? After the car sat facing away from the sun outside the next day, the 303 side of the dash was a little sticky and very shiny. The non-treated side was slightly shiny, but nowhere near as bad as the 303. It's like the dash is rejecting protectant. A quick wipe with a microfiber cloth gets it back to a low-sheen, non-sticky new appearance. I'm going to get a better vinyl cleaner and try just doing that without a protectant and see what happens.

The bottom line is, if you want to preserve what you drive you need to use a car cover when parked outside. Every time I buy a new car the next day I order www.calcarcover.com a Noha fabric car cover, guaranteed for 5 years! They will replace it at no cost to you if it fails, no questions asked!
