Extending Warranty Beyond 60K

So my current Elite warranty is about to expire. I am currently at about 61,000 miles and the only things I have had replaced on the warranty were O2 and TPMS sensors.

I am thinking of possibly re-upping for 2 more years and 24,000 miles. As of right now I am only driving about 6,000 miles per year but that could change depending on work.

Is there anything that seems to have a history of failing after 60K? I was pretty set on just extending it another 2 years but if it is just going to be a waste of money, maybe I won't bother.

Thanks.

Wheel bearings seems to be one of the more common issues. I just had both fronts replaced at 48k. Would've been $800 but I had a warranty.

I have 68k and nothing much to replace on my car. I thought about getting another one but the price has double which I might refuse this time around and go w/ AAA for the towing.

Extending the Elite warranty for 24 months and 24,000 miles is $1410 with a $100 deductible if that should make a big difference in my plans.

The one i was looking at was 4 years 48k miles and they quoted me at 4k. The 1st time i bought it it was 1600, so it's more then double for me. I only had 2 things replaced on the G which was the driveshaft and the switch on the D to Manual when it went out on me. To pay 4k for the warranty and if it don't pay out is a waist. Unless i can have another big thing go out on me on the car i am done w/ the elite warranty.

Where did you get that pricing? Was it just from a local dealership, or did you shop it online at one of the two or three dealerships that specialize in selling them at steeply discounted prices? IMHO, if you don't get a price from one of them, you probably looking at an inflated price there.

That is the price I got from the dealer(Infiniti of Naperville outside Chicago). Same place I bought the car and got the Elite warranty that I am currently on. I did a little shopping and got them down to that.

Did you get any prices from any of the big three? ( i.e. Scottsdale, Circle, and I can't remember the third )

I negotiated using the Scottsdale pricing I had gotten quoted and got my current dealer to pretty much match that pricing.

Ahh, ok, if you talked to Scottsdale then you're good. Just checking.

If getting an extended warranty helps you sleep at night, go for it! If you consider that kinda $$ a waste looking back at what you've already spent and the work you had done...forget it! With the last option make sure you're maintining a strict maintenance schedule, that will help your G last a very long time!

Just some random thoughts. I am sure you know statistically speaking warranties do not pay for themselves. With that said they do give peace of mind and that may be worth something. Also they may work out good. I have bought three warranties in the past 5 years. Two on cars and One on a refrig. One car I paid 1500 and submitted over 3000. The other car paid about the same but no submissions. On the refrig paid 210 and submitted about 500. On the G I bought used from a dealer I did not buy one. The price was 1800 for five years and the car had about 60k in miles. It sounds like extended warranties may be more than those a dealer will give you when you buy. Hope any of this helps.

Im also contemplating if i should renew my extended warranty. Mine expires this coming January 2015 and I'm at 68k. I had so many things done in my car under warranty and I saved my *** from big headache. I got that P0011 code (gasket) replaced. They torn down my engine and clean it up. estimated cost 6k at least. They replaced my F+B wheel bearings, AC compressor (from that noise) , idle pulley, and ac blower fan (just stop working) . If I can get a better deal I'm for sure will renew mine..

PS my car is well maintain: oil change every 3k, my transmission oil and differential are changed around 61k. coolant replaced when they torn down my engine cause of the leak around 63k. brake pads replaced around every 10k.

(things happens and if you think extended warranty can have a peace of your mind then go ahead "sparko24")
