Hello!

Just a quick question: I looked at diagrams etc.. but i'm still not sure where the oil cooler hose (from thermostat) goes? I want to reconnect a hose there...

Thanks!!

Mike, when you mentioned an oil cooler in your earlier post, I assumed you had an X model, as the RWD model did not come with an oil cooler. So now, I'm not exactly sure what you've got going on there. Maybe it would help if you could post some pictures showing what you're seeing.

2007 g35s sedan
Ok... so i'm getting mixed results; i assume the 2007 g35s sedan does not have the oil cooler ... thus the oil port is capped off (The smaller port on the thermostat)

Mike, that isn't the correct thermostat/water inlet for the HR motor. It looks to be from the earlier (V35) gen cars with the DE motor. It may fit, but there is no small secondary outlet like that on our cars. If that is what is on your car, then perhaps the previous owner mistakenly put it on and then capped it as a ghetto fix, or maybe it was put on in an attempt to add an oil cooler to the car (like the X models).

Just to be clear, does you car have the oil cooler doughnut underneath the oil filter or not?

EDIT:
FYI, I think stuff like this tends to happen with the '07 model because many parts listing incorrectly assume/ equate it to be the G35 COUPE instead of the sedan. I have gotten into the habit of calling my car a 2008 G35 model when asking for parts, as the '07 and '08 sedan are virtually identical, and there was no G35 coupe in 2008, just a sedan. (In 2008, the coupe changed it's model number to G37) This way, there is no chance for misinterpretation, as there was only one G35 in '08, and it was the sedan!

Thanks vqsmile! I assume there is no harm done (?) As long as it's properly capped/sealed.

I'll double check the oil filter.

No, I wouldn't think it would cause any problem outright. My concerns would be thinking more long term, as in whether or not the temp calibration of the thermostat is the same (it may be, I just don't know), and whether or not the "cap" will hold up (most caps are just rubber and are not reinforced like the hoses are).

So having a 2007 COUPE thermostat will trow a CHECK ENGINE light. " Collant temperature reading too low"

I assume this will not cause any harm...especially in the summer time. (I'll swap it for the winter in order to get proper heating)

a+

Mike, like I mentioned above, it isn't going to cause any outright failure in the short term, but it isn't helping you one bit. The engine is designed to operate within a temperature range and as such, when forced to operate outside that range, will experience poorer performance, efficiency (aka gas mileage), and advanced wear.
If this were mine, I'd think about changing it sooner rather than later (i.e. not wait until next winter).

I'll be changing it in the next coming 2-3 days. I clearly told the store what model yr etc... (i'll use 2008 g35 sedan sport instead) Hopefully i'll get a free one :P

* If the thermostat helps with gas consumption...i'll buy a solid Gold one! :P

i have the same issue but it's going up to H rather than going down to C. The gauge normalizes when i hit highway speeds. I'm going to bleed the coolant system and if that doesn't do the trick then i'll replace the temp gauge sensor.

Does anybody know how much the sensor costs?

Does anybody know of any tutorial videos on how to replace the sensor?
