Helpppp Code P0171
#33
If you unplug the MAF it should run pretty badly in a rich default mode and set all your engine lights off. The ECU just looks to see if the MAF is putting out a reading not a *correct* reading. I was told by an Infiniti tech if you unplug your MAF and it the air to fuel ratio goes +25% then the problem is probably your MAF. If it doesn't then you can have a vacuum leak causing the lean condition.
I was getting the P0171 condition on my 06 coupe for a very long time and did all kinds of troubleshooting. Cleaned and even replaced my MAF sensor which didn't help and I was out 250 bucks for a brand new part. Swapped out my O2 sensors, which didn't help.
I finally made a DIY smoke machine and found a huge leak at the brake booster o-ring. Sealed that up and the code went away and everything returned to normal.
*If you do want to replace your MAF sensors I have two I can sell you cheaper then the dealer. One is brand new OEM and the other is used.
I'd invest in a decent OBD scanner and program that can troubleshoot your code if you want to save money. I use Kiwi from PLX Devices and Torque Pro on my Android for quick scans and information. I pull out a Chinese Consult III clone when I want to go more in-depth.
