Just looked at my first G... and walked away. Mistake?
Hey guys! I've been itching to buy a G35 for a bit now and finally found a 2007 G35 Sedan 6MT about 3 hours away from me.
I went and got the loan after talking with the guy for a while. Seemed like a done deal.
Once I showed up, the car turned out to be a lot rougher than what he made it out to be.
The body had lots of dings and scratches, small rust spot from missing paint, rotors were warped, interior was rough, carpet had holes in it, panels were misaligned, the key fob batteries were nearly dead, the trunk release didn't work on the fob or rear button on trunk, rear passenger window didn't work, the clear coat was in terrible condition, the steering wheel was misaligned, etc etc.
The biggest issue I had was 5th gear grinding. First he said I shifted too soon (~47mph) Then he said I shifted too fast. I argued that I shouldn't have to baby it and he argued that's how Infiniti made it, lol. After googling and talking with my dad I decided to pass. He was firm at $8,000. KBB in lowest condition is $6,600.
He had a shop recently replace the clutch and flywheel (paperwork didn't mention flywheel, only clutch kit and slave cylinder) so I'm not sure what the real problem was with the grinding. Dad was thinking syncros at first but after searching thought it could be the shifter alignment.
I feel like I did the right thing but I cannot find another 6MT sedan anywhere What do you guys think?
*I owned a 6MT 2005 350z, so I'm aware how it should feel. I couldn't even shift his fast without grinding other gears.
Edit: It had 128k miles on the clock.

This was a plain and simple example of a car from which to walk away. There are nice G's out there, they hold up really well if taken care of. I sold mine a couple years ago but it was an 07 6mt sedan, with 80k miles and 8 years old it was probably a 9 out of 10. I took care of it but it was not babied or kept out of the rain/snow, I used it like a regular car and it held up beautifully. This one sounds like it lived in the city and was abused. And on top of that the seller clearly presented the car poorly. Anyone who cares would have the car sorted and clean, all records available and if there is anything they dont want to fix it is disclosed in detail ahead of time.
Keep searching! You'll find your dream car. Only issue is, for a good condition car expect to pay more.
Bad syncros or transmission issues would be my main concern if I were buying this car today. I wouldn't want to deal with that unless it was baked into the price. Even if a used dealer had a 30-day warranty i think it would be an uphill battle getting them to make right on the transmission without trying to blame it on the clutch which naturally isnt covered.
