Premium and sport package are a must IMO. Im not too happy on the weight of the vehicle. but our Gs now arent as light as feathers, so to speak.

Let's face it most of us have ambivalent feelings about a car's curb weight. Sure we want a lightweight car, but of course we want an air conditioner, heater, etc., a larger displacement engine is a good idea, a back seat, air bags front and back and even on the sides are a good idea, we've got to have our moon roof, a great stereo system with at least 8 speakers is an absolute must, a nav system is great, a spare tire is nice, we certainly want our doors reenforced in case of a side collision, and we have to have a car that is at least 50% more rigid than the prior model since we don't want any flex in hard turns. OK Infiniti I want all of that in a 3200 lb car. Good luck.

I believe the 335 has 300 lb/ft.

Not sure what you mean by "Do the trick". The current sedan does a 13.9 in the quarter mile which is plenty fast for the street. And that is with the 268 lb-ft of torque at PEAK (not across the whole rev range). The new coupe has about the same (270) but will be flatter. In addiiton, it stays higher for a longer time. Those two things together gets you more power down low and up high. The final gear ratio has improved much as well, which will increase low end torque as well.

I'm guessing about a 13.7-13.8 in the 1/4 mile, although I'm hoping for 13.6. The 335 puts out 300 lb-ft of torque but is a bit uderrated. It is putting out closer to 315 or so. That being said, if you look at it's torque curve it is flat from about 2000 rom to 5000 rpm, and then has a steep dropoff. So, it will feel very strong down low (a nice thing) but will make less high end power (the current G sedan makes more power up high than the current 335). My old G ran out of steam up high so I welcome the strong top end, especially if the 6-speed is truly improved and more refined.

Since I am shopping the 335 and this coupe, I am familiar with the 335. I have test driven a 6-speed, and know what it does well, and what it doesn't do well. No matter what the new G did it was never going to have a 300 lb-ft flat torque curve from 2000 to 5000 rpm AND make strong top end numbers. That being said, there were alot of things about the 335 that would annoy me over the long haul.

Just looked at the interior specifications. Looks like the back seat lost a bit of room. 0.2 incles in shoulder, head, and hip room. 1.6" in legroom!! Back seat is officially useless. From trying to sit back there, it needed 1" more of head room and 1" more legroom, and it would have been exponentially more uselful. Losing space is the wrong direction.

Indeed.
Guys, let's be real. These engineers already know the deal is. I'm sure that they've figured out most if not all the issues affecting perfromance and have made attempts to address those issues. It's not that it can't be done; it's just that it all boils down to the issue of $$$.

Of course, if you still insist to have all those goodies and then some then let me recommend this:
http://www.porsche.com/usa/models/91...turesandspecs/
http://www.edmunds.com/new/2007/pors...868/specs.html

Glass panorama roof; AWD, Bose sound system and a relatively low curb weight and the "prestige" of a fancy nameplate. All that for more than twice the price of the new G coupe.

.....the rear wheels are 9" now, so larger rubber can be mounted. Inifniti should have put 255s or 265s on this car - although that would have been even more weight.

Torque in and of itself doesn't mean much. Torque is simply the force applied at a specific instant -- what's just as important is how many times that force can be applied over a given period of time (rpms), which determines how much ACTUAL work can be performed by the powerplant (hp). Therefore, it doesn't make much sense to say that X amount of torque isn't sufficient. 270 ft-lbs w/ a redline around 8000 is plenty and is very much in line with the sportscar concept.

It's the limited slip diff. BMW don't put LSD in the 335i because they don't want it to directly compete with the M3.

It is just that Audi was able to drop 200 pounds in the new TT and keep pricing around $1k of the outgoing model.

That is a trade I think most of us would be willing to make if Infiniti did it (instead of adding weight). Especially considering how easy it is to make power in the aftermaket, and how difficult weight is to drop.

It just seems that Infiniti is more overly concerned about luxury over sport and sports car feel. Not that is a bad thing, just not exactly what I was hoping for.

I'll buy 13.7 or 13.8 and if that is good enough for you, then the G will meet your expectations. Personally I was hoping that the '08 G37 would at least match the performance of an '07 335, and that means around a 13.4 1/4 and 0/60 in 4.8 secs. As far as making power at the top end, well that's useless for the vast majority of drivers since they spend 99.999999999% of their time driving below 5K RPM. For the street BMW has it right since it puts out a great deal of useable torque where drivers need it: 2 - 5 K RPM.

Not true. First of all, BMW doesn't currently sell a M3 model. Second, BMW is working on an electronic limited slip for the 3 Series, but it is not ready for general release (just like BMW is working on a dual clutch "auto" tranny like the VWAG DSG, which is also not ready). The only reason BMW does not make a lsd available in the 335i is that BMW does not have a lsd available for the 335i.

(This logic is not to be confused with BMW's logic of not including an alarm with the vehicle or making runflat tires the only tire available on the 335i.)

If you guys want to count tenths of a second and weigh down the ounces for every bit of performance, the folks at Nissan/Infiniti would likely steer you towards the Z. Same engine/transmission/brakes, etc... Cheaper, less weight, less luxury. Simple. The G is NOT a sports car, it's a luxury cruiser. Sure I want it to have 450hp and weight 3400lbs also... But get real.

Plus, we'll have Vortech superchargers out for it in no time.

Will the '08 Z have the 330 HP engine?

I'd be willing to bet that it certainly will. Why should Infiniti have all the fun?

And yes, the G is more of a Grand Tourer than flat-out luxury car or sports car. Even so, it still leans more towards the luxury side of the Grand Tourer scale. Whether that's good or bad depends upon the potential owner.
