catalytic converter 2008 sedan

So I have a check engine light on my 2008 g35 sedan(67k mileage) and went to check it out in the local shop. They said I need to replace my catalytic converter and the price on those thing are pretty high. $988 a piece. I also went to the Infiniti dealership and they stated it's $1200 I think each. But after talking to my local shop, he say I can buy a used one and he'll install them for me if I'm on a budget. Atm I can't afford it and I can't buy a hfc since it's against the law in the state of California. I found a 2009 g37 couple cat on ebay with 51k on it and was wondering if they would fit on my car.

Should I buy this? How long do you think these cat would last for or should I just save up and go with a new cat. My smog is coming up in a couple months in December but at that time I'm pretty sure I would have enough to purchase a new one. I really want to spend those money on other parts but if I have to purchase a new one then I will.

they will fit your car. I bought HFC off a G37 coupe and it fit my 08 sedan. I would see what the dealers have to say about the catalytic before you buy another set. Why would the local shop say you need to replace them?

Agreed with the above, All tho I had to have my passenger side one replaced on my 09 rattling. Why this not under warranty isn't the emissions 8/ 80kor 100K. Mine was covered, I was just over 60k.

So I went to the dealership for an oil change and they ask me about my check light engine, I told them I had a leak on my right cat since I came to the dealer before but don't have the fund to fix it. (The last rep said I wasn't under warranty or didn't even bother to check or something.)This rep said he would check to see if the cat would be under warranty and it was! I got it fix in 3 hour without paying beside paying for my oil change. I don't know why the first guy said it wasn't under warranty and wanting to charge me for it but I'm glad I went back just for an oil change and end up getting my cat fix on the way too!
