Whats the best exercise for abdomal area.

I've been working out again since november. I want to know what the best adominal exercises are. right now in I use a crunch machine with weights and another machine that you twist side way w/ weights, what other things should I do. I'm trying to get my six pack back before summer.. but my "love handle area" lower abdomin is showin no love.

remember you need to lose body fat by doing lots of cardio, having the correct diet and doing weights to build muscle to inc. metabolism and fat burning as well. This will help shed the fat that will hide the muscle you want to define by doing your ab workout.

+1

Don't waste your time with ab exercises to form a six pack.
You need to reduce your overall body fat percentage, even if most of it is in the stomach area.
After you have little or no fat there.. then you can start doing ab exercises with weights, or just sit ups and crunches.
Losing the weight shouldn't take more than two months, with the proper diet, and dedicate another two months for doing ab workouts in the gym.

^^It might not hurt to do what you said and add a few ab workouts in the mix as well.

Then increase the frequency and intensity in a few months..

Definitely diet first and cardio of course.

If you just want one exercise, do hanging knee-ups. Don't stop when your upper legs are parallel to the ground though. You'll only work your lower abs. kepp going until you've "crunched" your knees to your chest.

Don't feel bad if the first time you do these you have a hard time doing 10.

The fat guy is right on this one. Every time you come up a crunch you catch the ball, when you come back up toss the ball back. Repeat cycle.

A good diet is a must. Its a combination attack on this one.

You'll actually see the best results from "proper" diet and cardio. The "side twisting" machine is for your obliques (another portion of your abdominal area.. however not always known to be part of the infamous "six pack").

1) Surprisingly.. your love handles will get a little help if you do some lower back exercises. (ie. Romanian dead lifts)

2) Do some Captain's Chair leg lifts for your lower abs. (where you're stretched [hanging on a pull up bar.. or the padded version made for the Captain's Chair machine] and you lift both legs either straight crunching up.. or straight outwards. You'll feel a slight difference with sticking your toes outwards too.

3) For your lower abs too you could do some lying leg-in crunches. (on a flat bench or on a mat.. you extend and pull your legs in/crunch at the same time)

4) I'm trying vertical climb w/ a brisk pace for cardio right now. I walk on the maximum incline at like a level 3-4.1. The results calories-wise are a little more when you calculate mile:calorie ratio.

There's a bunch of stuff that you could do.. but I've been trying to do all these things w/out having a proper diet, and w/out eating about 5 meals a day.. and it's all the harder. Good luck!

We did it the other way, I'd catch the ball on my way down (over my head) and had to keep my body / head / ball from hitting the ground, and I'd have to throw it (again, arms over my head) while coming up using mostly my body, keeping my shoulders/arms as rigid as possible....

The added weight that far away from the point of pivot did a number on me's belly.

Just for the record

Diet VS Exercise:
Tests on overweight people show that a calorie is just a calorie, whether lost by dieting or by running, they said.

everyone seems to be repeating the same things, so pretty much RUN n work out.

once youve lost some body fat or really dont have much n jus wanna tone up some more, you can...

lay on your back on a mat/floor and raise both your legs up, towards your stomach, bending them. Then raise both legs straight up, lifting a small portion of your lower back, not so much that u begin using back muscles but enough get your rear off the matt. Come down and put your legs down, in reverse (from stomach to flat on mat or u can jus not let them touch the floor)

do 20, im sure it will burn, once your abs get stronger, u can do more.

as long as your consisten with your ab workouts u will get a 6 pack, if youre already a bit slim of course :]

im no expert but i definitely work for good abs man_

IMO, it's what you eat that counts 50%(if not more) of faster results. I've seen many people attempt to get their six pack that they use to have in their younger days but fail.
Then again, i also see them drinking a soda and attending them happy hours for a drink or two. Sugar and fat...it's alot out there, got to cut down on these two things.
Trick your body into getting the sugar and fat that's already stored in your body. As one gets older, the metabolism isn't as good as it use to be. Any little bit of cheating on their diet can really affect their goals.

The best gut remover would be the following:

1) A good diet; which includes a high protein and a decent amount of carbs (good carbs).

2) Water, Water, Water....you get the point. Less salt = better look.

3) Working out the legs, mainly squats. High reps or heavy weight.

4) Crunches and the medicine ball with different ranges of motion.

-That's what I've found to work.
