A Personal "Overhaul" if you will
Ok, well I am prone to posting up my life on here already so why not continue? Let me say off the bat that if you have anything nasty to say - say it somewhere else because I don't give a damn.
![]() I have said before that I am not a little girl. I've never been *little* but I wasn't always overweight. I'm about 5'6" and I'm at about 220 at this point. That isn't the worst it has been but certainly close (thank god!). Before I had Lee, I was 130 lbs and in kinda ok shape I guess. I wasn't big but I certainly wasn't chisled and defined. Well, the closest I ever came to my pre-baby weight was about 160 and it just went downhill from there. I have tried several of the "quick fix" diet type things and frankly they just made things worse. My mom is around my height and has I would guess a good 50lbs on me. She has been big as long as I can remember though she was a beanpole when in highschool just like I was. My dad is 6'3" and at his smallest he was about 250lbs but he has most often been in the 280-300lb range. My point here is that basically my genetics are not helping my body fight my bad habits. Alright, so the point of spilling all of that is this: I have recently begun using the services of a personal trainer at the gym I belong to. I will be thrilled to lose some of the weight I have but my biggest thing is to get my endurance up and just generally build some strength back up. I figure the loss of any weight is going to be secondary and expected if you are working out several times a week. It's not that I think anyone is all that interested in this but telling you all gives me even more accountability. With my personality, I need that accountability. Is there anyone else out there who has done this kind of thing or doing it now? I would certainly welcome anyone else's take on the process assuming they have done it. It is pretty obvious that it will take a pretty long time to get to my ultimate goals but in the end it will be worth all the pain and suffering. LOL Thanks for "listening". ![]()

It's a little less than that. I have 2 30min sessions a week and it is roughly $50 a week. It's paid monthly so I'm not sure what it would be if it was per session block like you were quoted.

Cheryl, you're awesome. You have the determination to do whatever you want - just stick with it. In 1989 I was 5'8" and weighed 196 pounds. It was all beer weight, guilty as charged, but I'd just gotten off about 5 years of sea duty and I was enjoying my shore duty. Over the course of the next year, I lost 45 pounds and in January of 1990 I ran my first marathon. I've kept the bulk of the weight off, but my health won't let me run like I used to so I have to better monitor my food intake to keep from gaining. The age/metabolism thing makes it tough too I never had a trainer or a coach. I monitored fat intake and ran - slowly at first, then faster as the time went on. I didn't run for speed, I ran for time - the speed came later when I was lighter. Walking would be a great way to start. I never get on the treadmill without my Ipod - I listen to audiobooks to pass the time and make it not so boring. When the weather is good I run the roads and trails but in Washington it's often very cold and wet and I'm a sissy... No matter what you do, realize it isn't a process but a change in lifestyle that will get you where you need to be and keep you there. Don't take on anything you aren't willing to continue on your own once the trainer is gone. You need to learn good habits and exercise techniques that YOU enjoy (or hate the least LOL) so you can stick with them - now and into the future. Lots of people lose weight, but the ones that keep it off are the ones that accept that it's a change of mindset. You have to make time for yourself and not make excuses for not getting to the gym etc - it'll be tempting to do when you're sore and tired.. Just keep telling yourself that you'll be SO HAPPY you went (because you will) and keep at it. I wish you the best of luck and if you need to vent - we're here.

Best wishes and good luck with everything. I have been genetically superior to thin people most of my life.
I just recently purchased an elliptical machine which now sits in my living room. I get on it four times a day, in between posting. Hopefully it helps. I don't think I have the discipline for a trainer. |

It was too easy to put it off and not do it. This way I have standing appointments and I just have to stick to it the rest of the week. Believe me, she'll know if I don't do anything the rest of the week. LOL I'm not positive she isn't trying to kill me and each time she ups the stakes a little bit more. The best thing is that she is showing me a lot of things that I can do at home and just make part of my regular routine. Trey is getting some benefit too since I talked him into doing the stuff at home with me. ![]()

My trainer is giving me quite a few things that I can do at home and I'm trying to make a "schedule" of things to just make part of my regular day. I'm hoping by making it part of my regular things to do then it will just be a habit at some point. I have to remind myself how little time it really takes to do the workout and keep telling myself "I might be skinny again, I might be skinny again". lol

if you are going to get into the gym you can continue to eat the same way and will slowly lose wieght. I don't believe in diets. BUT if you can make a lifestyle change that would help. Revamp your fridge or use willpower not to eat junk. But just reading where you are at now it will take the whole family to join in in the effort
Take it for what it's worth i've been up to 200 and floating at 190 now 6'2 You could just apply for that reality show Biggest Loser. i don't think you'll have a problem losing wieght that way |

Cheryl,
Awesome job at taking accountability and working through the tough stuff! I'm 6'3" and pushed 210-215 at one point. It's not huge, but I felt 'loagy'. I made some lifestyle changes that really helped change how I view the whole thing. I used to eat anything and everything in front of me, since I had a good metabolism when I was a kid... guess it doesn't stick with age and beer I'm at 180 now, and feel leaner and generally more energetic. The biggest thing was to realize that everything is good-- in moderation. I picked up running a bit more, going out and hiking, swimming, etc. instead of sitting in front of the boob tube and computer (I'm a bad Admin, I know), and just making better decisions. At my sister's wedding, her friend feared I'd taken up a meth addiction because I'd dropped nearly 40lbs since I last saw her, but the last words out of her mouth were "it looks good". Better than that, it feels good. I wasn't sure if that was a good thing The first time I had to buy a 15.5/33 dress shirt, I was overjoyed. Keep us posted on the progress-- we'll keep you honest! G |

Thanks George.
![]() I would feel better if I could just get back to 180. I was there for a pretty long time before it started rising again. I will be happy if I get to 160 and absolutely thrilled if I can get to 140. I'm giving myself a year to get to 160. I figure that is slow enough and realistic enough to actually get to and keep it off.
