Just started working out for the 1st time in approx 6-7 years

Having a daughter that I have to pick up various days in the week and having us both work doesn't leave much time to get into anything resembling "shape". Plus my knee has been bugging me for the last year. I could feel it a tad on the program below but I could get though it.

I'm trying to stack a bunch of core free weight exercises together in order to get the workout down to about 30-35 min. That way I can pick up my daughter from my mom in laws at a reasonable time.

1) Bench for reps + pull down lats + step ups on a bench w/ weights (3 sets)

2) Power cleans + ab crunches (3 sets)

3) Shoot hoops for about 15 mins. Running to a spot, shoot, run for the ball, repeat.

I had to waste a bit of time to grab a punch card so I think I can add 1 more superset of exercises but I don't know what yet. Since it's my 1st time, there's no need to go all out anyway

Suggestions? I don't really care to get big. I'm already fat. I want to lose weight, gain muscle tone and get my heat rate up a few times a week.

Yo need to setup a good diet as well, that make just as much difference as anything. Also I work on 1-2 muscles when I got and then alternate the next day. This way you can fully target the muscle groups.

My diet although not perfect is better than before. Trying to cut out chips, burgers, fries, carbs. Not all the way. If I have rice (asians MUST have their rice! lol), I cut the portions in half. Or leave until the end and don't eat after I feel full. Try to eat salads 2-3 times a week.

Good stuff Jeff. Any good program needs some more cardio in it- at least 20-30 minutes 3x+/week. Use the bike, elliptical or run.

Thanks Fatty. I may have to try that myself. I usually eat dinner late.

I know. I'm trying to keep my heartrate up via the supersets to help with that. Can't run. Flat feets

But I HATE that stairmaster sh1t. Boring. That's why I'm trying to shoot hoops in an aerobic way. I'd hit the puching/speed bag if they had one. (I'd probably sprain my wrist though) (note: not all asians are kung fu masters )

Lose weight = long slow cardio. You need to target your heart rate and keep it there continually for a long period of time. Consider a inclined treamill walking workout - it's low impact but will kick your a$$.

I usually listen to audiobooks or music when I'm walking - it passes the time and makes it bearable.

I usually do 45 - 60 minutes at 4.2 MPH @ 6 to 6.5 degree incline.

I know but I hate that stuff. I'm hoping the increase in musle mass (hopefully not bulky but it could be as I'm the short Barney Rubble body type) will help burn more calories.

It's worked for me before when a group of us had a contest. I went from 190 to about 165. But I'm not trying to be that hard core. The extreme low levels of carbs I was taking in + the weights gave me cramps in my hamstrings.

I'd post a "before" pic but I fear the repercussions of such an act.

Good for you, Jeff. You need to be in some semblance of shape to keep up with kids, as I'm sure you know. I'm working on dropping a few pounds here, too.
