Understanding Calories?

I have been curious about this for a while now, I have a Polar Heart Rate Monitor I use when I bike or workout, and wonder if anyone understands this. Okay, so yesterday, I rode 16 miles, burned 1252 calories, 30% fat, that's what I don't understnad, the 30% fat, today I rode 14 miles, burned 878 calories, 40% fat. Does anyone know how these corelate?

I'm assuming it means the percentage of those calories burned that was fat calories. But how does it know that?

Could it be that you spent 30% and 40% of your bike ride in the fat burning zone? The fat burning zone is below the cardio zone.

I don't know, of the 1:20 I rode today, I was in the cardio zone for 1:13 of it.

By the way, used to be around K of P frequently, had a relative that lived in Wayne and then Phoenixville!

When you set the monitor up, you do it by age, weight, etc, guess it goes by that!

This is a good one, keeps a file of your workouts, shows HR, calories, in-zone, and you can check the calories as you work if you want. I won't exercise without one anymore. This is the model I have. $109.95

all depends... you may burn more energy calories during different types of exercises... you burn more calories during resistance training etc... but the less miles u rode did you take a different route or the same one...maybe you went up hill more and had to use more energy, etc. etc.

Really? I thought the harder you worked the more fat you'd burn? I usually average around 120-135 avg for a ride.

Well according to the machines at the gym fat burning programs are anywhere between 120-140 HR. Cardio and stuff is when the HR target goes up. As ur age goes up ur HR target should go down accordingly.

Today, a lot of my ride was into a slight headwind and up inclines, of course coming back was an easier ride, but even then I kick it pretty hard, don't see me coasting very often!
