Work out regime? regimine? ****... I need help

Ok all who work out and such. I just purchased a Nautilus Smith Machine and I also have a NordicTrack tread mill. I've put on a lot of weight (current: 230lbs and I'm 5'10") and need to take off about 60lbs. Sounds like a lot. Well, it is... I need to do this for health reasons.

I also purchased a Suunto T1 heart rate monitor. Its the bottom of the line with no real bells and whistles, but it does alert me when my heart rate increases too much.

So, what I need is for someone to PM me or even write down in great detail a plan for me. I need help. Who is willing?

Skyline,
Please don't take this the wrong way. I'm just after your well-being (gotta be supportive).

Go see your doctor first. I'm not disrespecting you or anything, but I think you should first have a physical check up with your doctor. I'm concerned about your heart and your blood pressure. Also, you may need to check your glucose count. You need to check the internal before you do anything with the external just to make sure you're okay.

Secondly, go s-l-o-w. Don't do or expect any results quickly. It took you a long time to get to where you are now, it'll take a while to get it off.... of course, men loose weight faster than women. I hate that about men.

Third, your intake. Slowly start modifying your food intake. Add more lean protein such as chicken and fish and turkey. Lay off the red meat and make that as a "reward" to you when you reach your weight goal. I eat about 1 to 2 pieces of steak a year. I know it's not much, but most red meats are fattening.

Eat throughout the day with small meals. Graze, I say.... I graze with healthy food all day. I have raw almonds near me all the time. Graze with fruits, nuts, vegetables.

Eat healthy carbs. Throw away anything with white flour. When you buy bread, read the labels and make sure the fiber is more than 3 grams for it to be heatlhy.

Drink a lot of water. Keep a reusable bottle with you all the time and refill it. It costs less and you can use that $$$ when you get to your weight goal and buy new clothes.

Once you get the okay from your doctor, go slow with your exercise regimen.

Good luck. I'm sure there'll be a lot of people chiming in. To prevent burn out, get some music that you like in your ipod. The brain needs that motivation too.

Thanks G-girl. I appreciate someone other than myself looking out for my well being.

I went to my doctor last week and my blood pressure was amazingly well. They said it was 205 over 185... is that good?

Am I sure about the #'s? No, maybe it was 105 over 85? Also, I mistyped how much I weigh. I said I was 330. I'm 230lbs. Hehehe

easiest way to lose weight short of doing anything physical is to not eat period. just drink healthy stuff but don't consume anything solid for a few months and ur lbs would be dropping. The hard part is getting past the stomach cravings the first 5-7 days. after that your stomach suchs up and you don't feel hungry anymore. overweight ppl can live go for a year without food except water and live. u never saw a fat person died of hunger did u? thats way easier than excercising 5 days a week for hours on end.

LOL okay, that's more like it. When you said 205 over 185, you should be dead by now.

and you did say you were 330... that's why I suggested that you see your doctor first. And @ 5'10"....

But still, take it easy. Just listen to your body.

Yes, that makes sense. 105 over 85 is pretty good. You'll likely see some more improvement when you reduce your weight and become more fit.

Now that your doc has okayed your health I suggest you hire a good personal trainer. That will keep you motivated and really help do the right things. You will need to focus on lifestyle (eating/sleeping etc.) as much as working out. A balance of cardio and some strength training with lower weight, higher reps or just simple calisthenics will work wonders.

As G-Girl said start slow, set reasonable attainable goals and do the type of things you enjoy and can stay with. Don't burn out early and make it a long term lifestyle change. Probably the coolest thing is the more fit you become the easier it will be become to stay motivated both with your workout and your diet. It won't be chore at all and you'll love to workout eat right and stay healthy. Your energy throughout all day and everything you do will increase incredibly.

Just curious because of your blood pressure.

85 on the dystolic is actually borderline high bro.

Good advice from RB.

I personally do a majority of low impact aerobic exercise (inclined walking) along with some road work, and light weights and calisthenics (push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups) etc. I used to do a lot of distance running, but after 20 years of it, the injuries are too frequent and too long to heal, and the joints really beat me up if I go out more than three times a week.

My weakness is my diet, and I like a glass (or three) of wine on the weekends.

Thanks GW. I would have replied sooner, but I somehow thought that I checked this and didn't realize that you posted. When your BP is high, whats the risk? Heart attack? I surely don't want that.
