Health and Fitness

I'm 5'11" and 218lbs. I'm changing my lifestyle to become more healthy for myself and my children. Any suggestions where to start besides eating habits and a gym membership. My goals are:

1) less body fat
2) leaner physique
3) not muscle bound

work out routines?

work out tips?

machines that people could buy for home gyms?

--- so clearly not the end of this thread. there is alot to discuss.

1beast, just stick with it work out religiously and change it up so your muscles dont start to get used to just going through the motions and DIET DIET DIET, it suck but the way i do it is i try to do good all week and then throw it all in the trash can Friday and Saturday night. ive learned that one meal doesn't make or break a diet.

That's the key right there. I see people go on binge diets and once they have lost weight they just go right back to their poor eating habits and gain the weight back. You need to make changes that you can sustain in the long run, not these binge diets to lose weight quickly. IMO, a lifestyle change is the only way to go.

I never really ate too crappy to begin with, but my wife and I have certainly made some changes over the last year or so. I feel much better about myself knowing that I live a fairly healthy lifestyle and that my daughter hopefully won't grow up learning bad eating habits from me.

I tend to eat crappy because I'm on the run all the time with my son or work. I'm not married (yet) so when I cook, I cook what is fast and easy for me and then try to throw something "green" in there for my son.

One of my biggest goals in starting this "sticky" is to get get dialogs started that not ONLY help me but others as well. I've raced motorcycles and cars for fun most of my life and being "light" and strong NEVER hurts!!

Does anyone know of specific foods that burn fat? (if there is such a thing)

Has anyone worked out and noticed the ability to handle their G better? I have friends who work out and race motorcycles and they SWEAR that they can "muscle" the bike around the track better when they are in good/better shape.

first of all 1beast, are you the type of person who can:

1). Lose weight extremely easy even when you throw down a nice large cheese pizza with extra pepperoni and a large coke?

2). Have a generally hard time losing weight and if you stray from a certain diet routine you gain the weight back easily?

3). Cannot lose weight no matter how much you diet and exercise?

I'm (1) for sure. As long as I do some exercise I can eat just about anything and either maintain or loose. Because I'm former actve duty US Marine, I tend to follow routine well.

then you're in the same boat as me. I'm trying to get my body fat % to around 8% and I'm following that diet by the guy from celebrity fit club

called 'extreme fat smash diet'. I lost 8 pounds in the first week but I'm gaining it back through muscle. great diet IMO you should check out the book.

You can do it!! I consider myself #2. About a year and half ago I maxed out at 219ish :-( Around 30% body fat and I'm only 5'9. Now, I'm at 172lbs around 14-16% trying to drop to 165% at around 10% bodyfat. Just keep your diet CLEAN and hit the gym a LOT, lol. Google HIIT, it helped me a lot. PATIENCE is the key for you to achieve your goals. NOW GET RID OF ALL THE JUNK FOOD in your fridge. Goodluck!!!
