Bottled water is the best route to go. The tap water filters do not "filter" enough of the "crap" out of the water to be worth the $$$ or even make a difference. You must be carefull about what kind bottled water you buy too. Some companies simply filter "tap" water and sell it to you the unknowing consumer. What ever you do, stay away from " Spring" water. To legally call it "Spring" water they can only filter it thru reverse osmosis which really doesn't completely filter ther "crap" out of the water. Also stay away from water that comes from a "Municipal" source. Municipal = tap. I have been drinking Sparkletts fro years because it comes from well water and is regulated by an independant company that randomly monitors them for cleanliness and taste consistancy.

As in the US it depends on where you live. It's huge country with a wide variety of water sources, testing and processes controlled independently at each town/city/municipality etc. There are lots of problem areas and lots of good areas. Many rural areas are on personal wells too which need to be monitored and tested periodically. I'm fortunate to have excellent quality tap water, closely regulated with strict standards. Spending money on bottled water that has no guarantee of higher quality is an enormous waste of money, energy, pollution unless truly necessary. |
