Best time to work out; morning or night?

Going to start working out again. Not sure if I should do it in the morning or at night. If I were to do it in the morning, it would be at 7am which means I would have to be in bed at 11pm max. If I were work out at night, it would be at 9.30pm-11.pm. It doesn't really matter to me, but I was wondering which time was the most effective.

Morning...gets your metabolic rate up and allows you to burn calories more efficiently all day.

+1 but you better be ready to go to sleep when your body tells you to at the end of the day. If you wanna stay up to watch late night HBO you're going to mess up the cycle.

I've read a number of articles suggesting that you lift in the evening but do cardio in the morning. Personally I say whatever fits your schedule best is what you should do.

That's really what it boils down to.
I'm up at 5:30 as it is, so I have no choice.
It's evenings or not at all, even though I prefer mornings.

It makes no difference. The benefit to the body is the same as long as the workout/calories burned are the same.

Generally it would make more sense to do this in the morning since you can eat afterwards with carbs/protein to repair your muscles. In the evening you may have a hard time sleeping for a few hours after exercise until your metabolism slows more.

Well I was hoping to work out at night, that way I won't have to wake up so early, but whatever.

I can see that ^
I generally I don't have a problem sleeping,
but I do try to get the workout in before 8pm.

+1... if it's evening it should be early evening so your adrenaline has time to go back down to normal before bed and so you have time to eat properly afterwards. "Properly" means enough to refuel, but not too much and not too close to the time you go to bed.

I prefer morning work outs....jump start the day, bring your metabolism up, and don't give yourself the opportunity to talk yourself out of working out (I'll be really good today and eat healthy, that way it doesn't matter if I skip my work out ).

Granted, I start to feel lame when 9pm rolls around and I'm getting tired, but it's worth it to me because it keeps me consistent. Ultimately, it's going to be up to whatever fits your schedule best, and how you think you'll be able to keep at it. Good luck!

My favorite time is definitely late afternoon. Plenty of time after lunch, and great refueling at supper with lots of time to relax in the evening.

You can try it at night and it might work for you. Otherwise get used to starting out a bit earlier and giving yourself more relaxation time at night.

I'm going to work out in the morning. Does anyone else feel tired through the day after workouts? I haven't done this in like 2 years. Used to be a health freak. Life is much more complex these days, so I'm not sure how the day will go after working out for about 1 hr 30min.
