Home cardio machine suggestions ??
What would you guys suggest for a good home cardio machine, I would like to get something that can fold so not to constantly take up a lot of room in my apartment. Something I can jump on for a half hour everyday while watching TV. I would like not to spend more than $1,000 on it, preferably in the $500-$600 range. Not a huge fan of treadmills as they aren’t too good for the joints. Any ideas?

I personally like elliptical machines or stair machines. I know the elliptical machines can fold up and it's a better cardio workout and also less strain on the joints. I'm thinking about buying one myself, perhaps a used one like on Craigslist for about $500-$800. This way..I can do a lot of cardio at home and just lift at the gym. I like the idea of doing cardio for hours while watching t.v. in the comfort of my own home.

Somewhat agree with the elliptical machine, but it doesn't replace the old treadmill. Test the two out for yourself, but studies have shown that treadmills give you a better cardio workout by means of inhaling/exhaling more. Ellipticals are terrific for working out every aspect of the lower extermities, especially the derriere. So for all you females out there, please buy one! You don't have to go to craigslist for a used one when www.overstock.com and www.sears.com have some decent one for under $250.IMO...buy a treadmill with a wider running belt, uphill simulator option and try getting one with a fan. Trust me...you'll need the fan |

Under $250?? what? The ones I've seen in that range are...well crummy. Not built well and flimsy. I'm talking about the ones that are actually at the gym. For a used one..those will easily run you at least $600

Just join a gym, that way you get every machine you need, I belong to one that costs $35 a month, some are more, but having one machine gets boring after a while, at a gym you can vary your cardio workout. I do the gym plus bike ride a couple of times a week, when weather permits. Just my .02.

Thx for the replies so far .... I have joined many different gyms before ... Yea there are pluses to it, but I don’t much care for all the sweaty people around using the machines not wiping and those that hog some machines forever. I have been working out at home for a while now and I like it better, don’t waste the time getting there, don’t have to shower there or drive home all sweaty sticking to the leather in the G. I am very satisfied with working out at home so that’s why I want to do some cardio there as well. I have been thinking about getting BOB (body opponent bag) but also need some regular cardio as well. I have tried the elliptical machines at the gym before and it was ok. Stair masters are decent too. I’m starting to think that a nice stationery bike would be the best option, as there is no jumping around (I live in an apartment building on 3rd floor). Anybody know of any specific brands for any of this stuff that is reliable/good for the price?

Versaclimber!!!!
It'll cost you, but look into a machine called a Versaclimber. I have been using one for Years and it's one of the best cardio workouts I have ever done. It is also pretty quiet and reliable. I got mine very lightly used on ebay.
