Valentine's Day dinner plans...

Instead of wasting my money on an overpriced meal at a restaurant, I like to make a fancy dinner for my GF for Valentine's Day.

Two years ago I made butter-poached lobster tails from the French Laundry (FL) Cookbook. Last year I made a rack of lamb with cauliflower au gratin (from Bouchon) and bouchons ('wine corks') for dessert.

I need to start thinking about what to make this year. If any of you have suggestions, give me some ideas!

I may make a Wild Mushroom with Caramelized Vegetable Jus in Puff Pastry Capped Potato Shell, which I saw on Hubert Keller’s tv show. It looks time-consuming though!

Crab stuffed sole with horseradish Bechamel sauce.

Find a recipe for crab stuffing you like, but make sure it's mostly crab and not mostly bread crumbs. To the crab and bread I add melted butter, a little celery, onion and an egg to hold it all together.

Buy large enough pieces of sole and roll them up around a generous helping of the crab. Put a toothpick through to hold the sole in place (don't forget to remove them before serving!) Bake covered at 350 for 45 minutes to an hour - until the crab is done.

Make Bechamel sauce and add horseradish to taste. Add a dash of paprika for color.

Serve with steamed vegetables (slightly underdone) selected for their color, and a nice baguette.

It's the secret to my happy marriage.

I plan on making Beef Tenderloin marinated in red wine, watercress & crispy potatoes, and ginger garlic asparagus.

I had open Faced roast beef. Ha, I am 17 and live at home though. So I guess that does not count since I do not have a wife/girlfriend.
