God Help Me the Noise!!

Hey guys,

I just installed a HKS clone exhaust on my ride, looks great sounds great on the exterior.

But for the love of god the cabin noise is insane....

Would using dynamat or b-quiet in the trunk help either reduce or eliminate this problem if not i am going back to stock exhaust.

Some help please, because my car isn't fun to drive right now.

I can't speak specifically to the HKS clone you have per se, but I can say from experience with my '92 Nissan 300ZX (had a VG30DE 3L V6) that the wrong exhaust on a Nissan V6 can cause serious resonance in the cabin. And, I think I can say from experience that trying to chase the problem with dynamat isn't going to solve the issue.

Bottom line, you need to find a different exhaust or go back to stock. These V6's have a certain natural resonance between ~1500-2750 RPM, and if you don't have enough muffler to contain it, it will be boomy in the cabin. Drove me crazy on my Z searching for a solution until I switched it out for the right exhaust (an HKS Sport, incidentally).

Welcome to the world of aftermarket exhausts. There is no easy/quick solution. You can eliminate drone and rasp but it will still be much louder than stock. I have a MD TDX v2 on my twin turbo and it sounds great - no drone, no rasp - but it is still loud. Going to a custom axle back solution that uses Dynomax VT mufflers. Might want to check those out.

Sinner G, you installed the x02 exhaust? If so, any videos available for us to hear?

+1. A lot of X02 owners do this to alleviate the droning.

Lots of exhaust videos in this thread, including the X02.
