DIY: Z tube install

I found the thread in the DIY section but the pics aren't working. Does anyone know where I can find it with the Pics.

Also is an ECU reset necessary after the install?

Thanks

----------------------------------

Thanks to SoCalTed for the pictorial and write-up of this very popular install. Here are his instructions: The pictures are in the following posts in this thread

Here is the step by step walk thru for the 350Z duct (Z-tube) that I installed on my Sedan............

Step 1/... First remove the 10mm bolts on top of the engine cover. Be careful not to lose any of the bushings that are on the bottom of the cover and are only held in the rubber grommets by friction. Put the cover and bolts to one side for safe keeping.

Step 2/..Then loosen the clamp for the Plenum intake using an 8mm socket.

Step 3/.. Using pliers or channel locks, release the clamp for the 3/4" tube that is in the middle of the duct (pcv tube). On the G it is on top. On the 350Z it is on the bottom (keep that in mind). Do not remove the clamp. but keep it on the rubber tube for safe keeping.

Step 4/.. Remove the "mid-way" support bolt using a 10mm socket and place it with the other bolts for safe keeping.

Step 5/.. Using a phillips screwdriver, loosen the flexible end of the G's duct and slide the clamp to the front of the car onto the airbox.

Step 6/.. Making sure both ends of the G's duct are free, lift it out.- remember it has a bottom portion that needs to come clear b4 it will come completely out. (see pic of both ducts)

Step 7/.. Fit the new 350Z pipe into place. You may find it helpful to connect the "midway" tube (Step 3/..) first before rotating it into its downward position. Then push the rigid end of the duct onto the plenum, and the flexible end onto the airbox.

Step 8/.. After connecting the duct to the plenum (Step 7/) make sure it's seated properly, or the 'mid-way' connection bolt will not align.

Step 9/.. Tighten down the 'mid-way' connector bracket bolt. (10mm)

Step 10/.. Tighten the screw clampt to attach the flexible end of the Z-tube to the airbox, as well as the opposite end to the plenum. Check the 'mid-way' bolt for tightness.

Step 11/.. Reinstall the engine cover. Avoid dropping any of the hardware (or anything else) onto the engine cover. It's a pain to retrieve them without removing the underside engine cover.

Step 12/.. The finished product! enjoy

GSM for SoCalTed.

A word of caution: I would carry the necessary tools (socket wrench, 8mm + 10mm sockets and a phillips screwdriver) in the event you need to retighten any of the hardware.
Recheck the fittings after your next commute.

Thanks Ted. I'll transfer over to DIY and leave a redirect here.

G35Sedan04, It won't hurt to do a reset. I did when I installed my CAI etc.
The alternative is to leave it and have the ECU relearn the new parameters. We're not sure how long this takes, but it won't be long.

A reset is quickest.

I notice this install is for a z tube on a g35 sedan.....is it the same install for the coupe? also....

does the construction material; rubber, plastic,cf,metal, make any performance-sound difference....or just looks and price

thanks

Great Do-it-yourself...

I just got my Z Tube in the mail today, and used these instructions to install it. I've never installed any kind of performance aftermarket product, but this step by step worked perfectly! I'm ready for the next DIY!

Thanks

G's up....

Z Tube...

I recieved the OEM plastic one from PerformanceNissanParts.com. It was really easy to install and it sounds awesome on my coupe! I can't say it's a huge difference, but it's enough for my little 3 year old boy to say, "it scarwy"!

G's up...

thanks for the reply, that's the one I was looking at ordering. glad to hear it's an easy DIY for someone, like myself, with no aftermarket experience
