Question Exhaust upgraded, still too quiet. Any suggestions?

Hey all,

I just changed the rear muffler on my 03 G35 Coupe with a high flow one in stainless steel (similar in size to the standard one, same set up - one inlet two outlets).

The problem is i started the car and you barely notice the sound - it's very quiet, even though there is an increase in performance. no sound

How can i make it louder? Will removing the mid muffler/resonator and replacing with a straight pipe do the trick??
OR should i just scrap this system, and buy a system already suited to the car.

Cheers!

(I attached a picture of the muffler i used)

Budget Exhaust Modifications!

Not all mufflers are created equal...truth! Magnaflow makes a replacement muffler that will sound better then the OE units but not much louder! Replacing the resonators with a straight pipe will make it louder, your best option! Replacing the OE converts with high flow units will just cause you major rasp due to increased volume! Resonators replacement best

Thanks, yeah i'm hoping removing the mid muffler/resonator will do the trick. Is it worth getting larger diameter piping done? What size is stock piping anyway?

I removed my resonator (mid-muffler) whatever you call it..., and had a local shop weld a straight pipe in place..., trust me it will do the trick. You'll definitely hear a difference.
Its nothing loud or raspy, its a nice loud-er G sound with more depth to it at certain rpm's.

Hope this helps!

Murry, there are no gains to be made with an intake since Nissan did a fairly good job at the factory. Z-Tube will change the sound, K&N drop in filter will allow more filtered air thru your intake! Now, what you need is a Motordyne 5/16" space to correct Nissans design flaw which is the number one breather modification you can make to a first gen G35!

6 speed G35 sedan
When you guys are talking about the mid muffler, is it that giant thing in the middle of the exhaust (I have a sedan). I removed the mid muffler on my Accord but what I took off was a lot smaller. Just want to make sure if I do that I'm removing the right thing.

well i had the resonator removed slight different only - the car is still very quiet. I'd say it's only a bit louder than stock, which is disappointing.

Looking at other options now...

You cannot feel a performance gain with a muffler swap
Don't lie to us
Don't lie to yourself lol

Your best bet is to just get a true exhaust and bolt the sucker up. Hacking up the stock one is going to always leave you wanting a better sound. Do it right the first time

honestly don't care too much about performance gain. Got a Kakimoto exhaust for it now, sounds awesome
