2006 g35x exhaust
The exhaust is coming due on my 2006 g35x (AWD). The dealership wants ~$1300 to replace the resonator and muffler. I think I'll just do it myself and replace the Y-pipe while I'm at it.
Can anyone recommend a basic Y-pipe, resonator, midpipe, and muffler for the X? I am getting different results from several websites regarding fitment and I can't tell what's accurate.
Based on reading some older threads here, I am considering the MR-Y-N3Z-V2 or Bosal-750-547 and MagnaFlow 16861. Open to other ideas so long as they fit.

Dumb question. The MR-Y-N3Z-V2 has two 2.5" inlets and one 3" outlet. Is the 3" outlet compatible with the MagnaFlow 16861 which lists the tubing diameter as 2.5"?

Cool exhaust I didn't know Magnaflow made a whole system for the G's. The piping diameter is 2.5" which is perfect to mate up with the OEM Y-pipe or most of the aftermarket ones. The 3" refers to the tip diameters on the muffler so irrelevant to any installation/mating questions.
Also know that the 03-04 and 05-06 sedans had different rear hangers for the muffler, this system has the 03-04 setup.

This exhaust fits the 2006 g35x. Here are my notes from the installation.
I used jack stands at the jacking points. This forum had some historical disagreement on which part of the car to use them on, holding the pinch weld in the jaws of the jack, or with the jaws of the jack parallel to the pinch weld. I chose the former. It was stable.
My cat-to-Y studs/nuts were corroded to the point that they were not salvageable and I ground them off. A 4 inch grinder does not have enough clearance to do this cleanly. To get the nuts off, I ended up grinding through the tubing of the old Y, destroying it in the process.
The studs were splined, rusted in place, and extremely hard. I drilled them out. Ended up chewing through an entire set of cobalt bits and only got through 3. The 4th I was able to chisel out after 3 days of applying PB Blaster. This was the most difficult part of the process.
I replaced the original cat-to-Y studs with M10x1.25 flanged bolts. One side of the OEM cat has clearance to get a bolt into the flange, the other does not. These bolts had to be ground shorter.
I did not test fit the exhaust together prior to installation. This was a mistake because one resonator did not mate with the output of the Y correctly (the tube opening was not round). This resulted in flaring the opening of the resonator with a pliers. If I had test fit, I could have done this on the bench while standing.
The other reason this is a mistake is that I misread the instructions and ended up installing the resonators on the wrong sides. If I test fit, it would be painfully obvious that I installed them wrong because they would not fit the muffler.
Edit: The ground strap nut was rusted beyond reuse, so I cut it off. It sounds like this isn't actually needed so I am leaving it disconnected for now.
Edit: If you're doing this by yourself, use the floor jack to lift the components into place.
