3D Printer and stock Headunit

My question is what would be the downside to having someone print me a copy of my 2004 Radio/CD bezel with navigation. I want to change headunit but really not willing to to fork out over $300 for JDM bezel and the metra kit climate control buttons are of the awful quality and look like they may melt on a hot summer day. Nothing is wrong with the radio but would like to install a pioneer with bluetooth and mp3.

Well unless you already have a CAD model of the bezel, you are going to have to invest a lot of hours into reverse engineering it and then paying for either time on a 3D printer or paying someone to do it for you. Then once its printed you will have to take care of all the printing lines from the many layers it took to build it up by sanding, filling, sanding, and painting it to match anyway.

By the time you have done all this you will have invested so many hours which you should then factor into what your time is worth. The way I see it, you will be out more money in lost time than it's worth doing.

Remember that the purpose of 3D printers is to rapidly prototype something or to remake something that isn't made anymore.

Also you can get a JDM bezel for around $200 if you shop around.

That sounds alot better than the $358 I figured from looking at a few places online.

"Stop being a cheap ***. "

I don't care. I'm not about to spend more for a bezel that may cost more than a head-unit.

I think Urban was referring to playa...Urban's in your court that $200 is a low number.

As I research more I am waffling between ideas either a carpc or just buy head unit. There is just so many more options with a carputer ie. engine data, possible dvr capabilities, Bluetooth, personal WiFi hotspot and some have carpc's update and load music while the car is in the driveway. Also if someone decides to steal my crap all they get is a 7 inch touch screen.

I am running Pioneer's appradio 3 SPH-210 and I have a wireless connecter out of my obd2 port transmitting data to the HU for instant engine data, air fuel ratio, and Netflix when my guests are done watching my fast and the furious stereo setup. All of that works on a head unit now . Your phone should be able to be a wifi hotspot too...

But if you want to invest time and money into a car PC I can't guarantee you a solid startup time and audio quality that will be anywhere close to OEM. The day of the car PC is dying, all of the features that used to wow are now available for 400$ at best buy.

Look up a member PSEdog if you are VERY SERIOUS about doing a car PC because I have seen his PC build thread and it is an EPIC build thread for those well versed in the art of electronics.

I hope that helps. I am '06 coupe with iPhone for APPRADIO.
