Driver side rear quarter rust

Hey guys,

So I have "what seems" like a small amount of rust forming in the rear wheel well of my G35 on the drivers side. Its bubbling the paint a little bit, but it is not bad yet or showing through the paint

has anyone else ever had this issue on their G35? if so, what kind of cost am I looking at "roughly"

As soo as I get my car back from the suspension job, I will post pictures of it

yea man! its the only thing on my car right now that kills me!! I am going to have it assessed by 2 placed coming up here! I will add to this thread with my "estimate" and then the actual fix etc etc!

Love this car quite a bit so I am going to put in what I have to in order to bring this back to original condition!

Coming from experience as I use to work in a body shop for a while do not go as cheep as possible if your going to fix the paint do it right no mid panel blends nothing good will come of it just have the whole panel painted. We use to use the dupont chromax pro paint and the color match was almost exact. Honestly on my car I would never cheap out on paint find a good credible shop who will warranty there work against peeling and have them remove the side skirts taillights and pillar cap the bumper can be sagged down thats fine but definitely clear the whole panel NO MIDPANEL BLENDS THEY WILL LOOK UGLY OVER TIME. A whole panel with r&i and body (yours looks pretty minimal) and silver paint... probably 6-800 for a good quality job. Every place is different thats the price here in hawaii might be cheaper where youre

Oh and make sure the shop removes the chip guard I hate when shops paint over them it makes it that much harder for the next shop or if you decide you want to remove them you cant

Ok Guys, I have an update

I went to 3 body shops in the area and got pretty much the same quote for the job. It looks like I have 2 options. Either a cut and patch with a new metal piece welded into the area where the rust is cut out and then blended blah blah.

or literally replace the entire rear quarter panel.

the cut an patch will be about 1000 and the rear quarter job will be about 2600, which would you do? and is any one it worth it?

Yea but even then, the rust will get worse because I live in the rust belt Midwest. What would you guys do? Fix it or leave it ?

A rust spot that small shouldnt need a quarter panel replacement. Did the shops actually look at it, like what the rust started from why the lip in the wheel arch is pushed out... also I think you might wanna check behind the interior quarter panel if you take off the metal cover you might be able to see the inside of the rust spot and how extensive it is. That last part is totally up to you but definitely fix it. Rust is cancer for cars, catch it early.

The warping is because the rust started in between the spot welds on the quarter between the inner and outer quarter! And you are right I should remove the wheel and shield and have a closer look inside to see if I can see any more. But what exactly do you mean remove the interior quarter panel? By the way it sounds, this might make a big difference?

And thanks so much for your post

If you take out the interior plastic panel next to the back seat theres a metal panel that unbolts behind it and if u look inside you might be able to see the spot where the rust is and how bad it is behind the panel. Its not gonna matter if you take a look or not the body shop is going to have to cut that piece out and graph a new one in. Its just something I would do just to see whats going on. And no problem im glad to be of help.
