I'm another victim of the dreaded trunk not opening thanks to frayed wires!
Thanks to several posts in here, I determined that my body-to-trunk lid wires were frayed: in fact all but two were completely disconnected. Those wires remind me of those old Radio Shack electronics kits, ridiculously thin for an automotive application.
I wonder this: have any of you tried to rebuild the harness with thicker wire? I'm thinking of doing this some free weekend, but I don't know where the body end of it connects up to the main wiring harness. The trunk lid end is self evident; but if I'm gonna rebuild the harness I'll have to take the whole thing out, remove the individual harness connectors, put them (or buy new harness ends) onto thicker wire, then put these back into the connector and put it all back into the car. Can't be too hard, I did the same thing to my motorcycle a couple of years ago.
