Hello everyone.

I am brand new to the forums. I recently purchased a 2008 G35X Sedan, and love it! I did purchase it used, so it does have a little bit of wear and tear, which is where my question stems from.

The person who owned it before me, I'm assuming a woman, scratched the hell out of the shifter ****. I'm assuming it was a woman because it looks like her rings may have done the scratching. I would like to replace the shifter entirely.

I called Infiniti, and they want $228 for a replacement - not happening! I've been looking online, and found a couple around $100. My problem is, I'm having a hard time differentiating which ***** are to be used on manual transmissions, and which ones are for automatics. I know the automatic has a hole in it where the little press/depress button sticks out that you have to hold in to shift, but every **** I see online doesn't have this hole in it.

Also, is this a DIY job? I REALLY don't want to drive to the dealer, who is 45 minutes away, to have this done. I'm not too car savvy, but as long as I'm not ripping wires out and whatnot, I feel confident that I could complete the job.

Can someone please give me some insight here? If you can't tell, I'm a bit lost.
