Turning off the G taillights

So you know how our G35 taillights look like this:

O= =O

is it possible to turn off the = = so it looks like I just have 2 circles in the back? I tried opening the taillights up, but it uses like a circuit board because of the leds. Has anyone ever tried this before?

Looks better with just the ring(s). It would be cool to wire up the rows of leds to flash in sequence as a turn signal though.
