03 G35 Headlight replacement

Hello, I realize this has been beaten to death as a topic but at the same time most the threads that were talking about it are long dead. Just wondering what you guys think of this pre done retro fit.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2003-2004-G3...-/141354025613

Not sure if I like the blue halo but might be okay (I have silver sedan)

Also not sure how I know if I have HID headlights or not? How do you tell? I know its 2003.5 and I have heard they all came with HID so assuming I do. Anyway someone backed into me the other day in a parking lot so have to replace and OEM are more than I can afford and insurance is only paying to replace the 1 light that was hit, but they are both super blurry and need replacing. Anyway thats what brought me here. Otherwise does anyone know anyone who does nice retrofits that are good quality and not super expensive? I could probably spend up to $1000 CDN ish...Thanks all.

Ok obviously nobody wants to comment on aftermarket *****. I agree they look really cheap. In that case does anyone know where to get just the housing for 03 sedan headlights? My ballasts and bulbs are still perfectly fine I believe so just replacing the housing would work to save a lot of money. Anyone know a good place to get these? Thank you.

Look in the bottom corner of the lens. You should see either "D2R" or "H1" which are the bulb types for the low beam. D2R is HID and H1 is halogen.

As for replacement headlights....you are right. Aftermarket crap is...crap.

If your bulb is halogen, you will find a lot more options. Just a google search "2003 G35 headlight" brings up some sources

Those are halogen headlights though. So you need to confirm what type of headlight you have as you cannot use halogen housings with an OEM HID setup.

That is wonderfully cheap...! Nice find. Any options on just the plastic though?

You won't find any plastics just based on how the assemblies are constructed. They are glued together.

But check to make sure you have halogen bulbs before ordering those lenses. Won't work with HID

You will see D2R or D2S.

Most aftermarket lights are crap as far as light output goes. You're much better off searching/waiting for OEM projectors or having yours retrofitted.

For a coupe yes.

He has a sedan. D2R or H1 halogen. Sedan never got projectors for the 03-06's (D2S bulb)

Well my headlights are ultra foggy so I can't really see the bulbs well enough to see what the numbers are. I know its a 2003.5 sedan. I read somewhere that all the 03.5s head xenons ? is that not true? is there another way to tell?

Also if they are xenon then none of the aftermarkets will work. I have a body guy here who is quite good but he said you can't just get new housing if they are xenon right? So what goes into retro fitting then?

I am not sure how this all works, but paying over a G for the headlights (OEMs) is not in the budget (03 g35 blackbook in Canada is only $2500) so insurance is only giving me that, which has to pay for new bumper and side panel, low pro tire ($500), and both lights... so... obviously that isn't going to happen.

Is it not possible to harvest the ballast and bulbs and put into another housing? Is that what you mean by retrofitting G-RYDE?

You aren't looking through the lens at the bulb, you are looking for the actual wording stamped on the clear lens itself.

Bottom edge of the clear lens against the bumper. Look for the lettering H1 or D2R. It's raised plastic lettering so it should still be visible.

D2R means it's a HID housing then.

So replacement HID housings for 03-04 are a bit trickier to find. I just searched around a bit and couldn't find any.

yep... argh... I thought you couldnt actually get just the housing anyway because everything was all attached directly. Isn't there some issue with that? Has anyone actually found a replacement for these that is not just a straight up oem original?

I wouldn't mind ordering the guts from RTS (retrofit source) but I need to find a housing that will hold them . Someone must have experience with this? 03s are 11 years old now everyone must have replaced it if they still have one, mine are so fogged its ridiculous.

Try and contact Sexee350zee. He does some really nice work with retrofits...converting 03-05 reflectors into projectors.

If your lenses are fogged up pretty bad, remove the headlight, get some 1000 grit wet/dry sandpaper and get that elbow grease warmed up. WET sand until what's coming off stops being yellow then move to 2000 grit WET sanding. Here's the order I went in when cleaning my lenses:

1000 grit wet sand
2000 grit wet sand
Meguire's 105 (twice)
Meguire's 205 (twice)
Meguire's sealer wax (twice)
