I was going crazy on how to get the headlight harness off, this info helped a ton

So once you unscrew the 4 bolts on the headlamp if you try to pull the headlamp out it will not come out because the wiring harness is still plugged. There is not enough room to unplug it either. The reason is the connector is on a holster. It is secured to the headlamp so that the wiring harness doesn't move around. It is secured by sliding it on the "rail".

Here is how you remove it. When you are facing the headlamp, if you pull the headlamp out slightly you will see the connector. Use a flat head screwdriver and insert it between the connector and the headlamp. You will insert it to the side of the connector. You will use this screwdriver as a crowbar to slide the connector off. Tilt the screwdriver towards you so that the connector is pushed towards the back of the car. Once the connector has come off you can pull the headlamp out further and you will have much better access at unplugging the connector.

The release button for the connector is facing down so all you do is twist the connector up and then use a flat head screwdriver to push down on the release button and separate the connectors.

This is the proper way of doing it. I saw about 10 posts telling people to break it! That is not a good idea. The harness design is not bad, it was just bad information given out.

In the first pic do you see that big black plastic connector? You need to separate that. There is a little button you press down hard with a screw driver to separate the connectors.

That plastic connector should just seperate into two. And that should release the headlight. That's the only thing you need to remove.

It was a pain in the arse seperating it. That clip really doesn't want to be pushed down.

okay. I had to replace my headlight with another one because of broken tabs... this is a great thread with good info but I did run into the same problem with the harness. The trick is, just get a flat head screwdriver and pry out the gap between the male and female harness connector. They come apart fairly easily. My harness hasn't been disconnected for 6+ years and it came off without much effort.

I spent most of the time trying to get the bumper to loosen... other than that, fairly easy DIY.

Cheers!

+1 when i did my H4's i had a hella hard time getting that connector loose(45mins), i almost gave up until some random guy walked by and he suggested a pliers(to hold the clip down) and a screwdriver(to pry em apart) worked like a charm...

Hey just wanted to say thanks for the DIY guide. I just swapped my old headlights on my 05 for some 06 projectors and I really appreciated it.
