Arco vs. Chevron gas??

Is there a difference between Arco 91 octane gas and say Chevron or Mobil? Arco costs less that's about all I know. There's an Arco right down my street and I just don't want to travel further, and pay more at a Chevron, Shell, or Mobil if there really isn't any performance differences. Please kick down some knowledge on this topic.

Re: Arco vs. Chevron gas??

Arco buys gas from other suppliers. Thismeans that sometimes you get Chevron, BP or Unocal. It is cheaper but it is also a crap shoot. If you are worried try out different brands of gas to see which one your G likes the best. If you see no difference then use Arco. I get better gas mileage with Chevron and no power losses I can feel.

Re: Arco vs. Chevron gas??

Yes there is a difference.I started using Arco back then because the Price was like you mentioned.. cheap.. But you pay for what you get.

ARCO GAS: Rumor has it that they combine some sort of water or water based liquid w/ their gas..

CHEVRON GAS: Very good gas, they use what's called techron which will burn the gas cleaner while filtering it as well.

Re: Arco vs. Chevron gas??

All the major name brand gas co.'s have some sort of cleaner/additive package in their fuel. It doesn't burn cleaner, it has a detergent in it that cleans your valves/pistons as it goes through, helping to prevent buildup. Chevron markets theirs as Techron, but any major name brand.. Mobil/Exxon, Shell, Citgo, Texaco, 76, etc... have similar cleaners in the gas. I've heard that Arco buys gas from the other companies, so you never know what you get with them.

most of the time, things are cheap for a reason. i wont never mess with ride up just to save 30cents per fill up. shell and chervon are the only stations i go.
and remember dont pump gas when there's a tanker loading.

I read a few articles on the internet and it said that companies like Shell, Chevron, 76 & Arco fill up from the same source, but each of them add their own detergents. Valero is the only co. that has their own filling station. As far as Arco, I know a dozen of people who have used Arco since they had their car and over a million miles together, they have not experienced one problem with their car. I know when I fill up Shell or Chevron, my car feels like its bogged and when I put Valero or even Arco, it runs just fine.

you better have cash for Arco, they charge you a fee to use your ATM/Credit card that most likely exceeds what you would save by going to chevron

I always used to use Amco as much as possible. Back when I was running 13.5:1 cr on my Prelude it ran the best off of this. It was supposedly the "cleanest" gas. Thats why they had the little clear viewing window in the handles back in the day, so you could see how "clear" the gas was.

My Prelude WOULD NOT run off of Chevron gas when the compression was high. I mean, literally, the three times, at three separate gas stations I tried it the car would hesitate, pull timing, and even once literally made me limp it home, drain the tank and put in race gas to "clear it out."

Ever since then I tended to be gunshy about Chevron.

I try to use BP when I can now, as they bought out Amco.

So have you tried Chevron in your G? It may be just me, like I said it feels like it just boggs my car down. I know Arco is BP.

I've tried it several times. Haven't noticed a difference.

I ALWAYS use 93, and typically use whatever's cheapest unless there's a BP around.

I do have to say, though, that I'm not really sure if the "may include up to 10% ethanol" stickers at the pump will do to affect the performance of my car.

I have seriously come to believe that some cars just have personalities, and they like certain types of gas. I know it's a little "Cristine"-ish, but I don't care. My cars do everything but talk to me. Well, in fact, my Infiniti does talk to me, but that's more literal since it's navigation.

been using chevron most of the time till last couple of months.... i would only put in arco if i really couldn't get any farther than a few miles and i was in dire need of fuel otherwise i would do shell or chevron...

as mentioned, i've been going to shell since i've recorded better fuel mileage out of shell than chevron. still driving the same way... semi aggressive...
