What is a "Zipperhead" and where did it even come from??

I watched Grand Torino over the weekend and I was stumped at one of the slang names used in that movie. "Zipperhead" It was said to the Asian people on the movie, but I have never head it before and it made no sense to me... What does it mean, and where did it ever originate from? Can someone please explain that to me????

A derogatory term used in reference to people of Asian descent.

It is said to have been coined during the Korean war by frontline troops whom had run over enemy troops in jeeps.

The soldiers claimed that the tire tracks from the jeeps left a pattern resembling that of a closed zipper along the corpse.
Damn, look at all the zipperheads here, it's like they've just taken over.
Only vets from the Korean war use that term.

I thought it was because their face was so flat, it looked like you
could zip it up.

Thats what I was always told.

No offense but thought "Zipperhead" had something with asian's eyes and looking similar to zippers.

Hmm, I didn't know that was the origin of the term, either. Ya learn something every day.

I thought it was just another general pejorative, like "knucklehead" or "peckerhead" (a personal fave).
