Concerned or just paranoid new G owner

Hey whats up everyone. I'm the proud new owner of a 2006 G35 coupe. I just got it last week with 21k miles. Its laser red and i just got the windows tinted and it looks sick with more mods on the way. However i just read the thread about the oil consumption problem (sticky everyone check your oil!) Sometimes when i get done driving and i get out the car i can smell a faint burning smell. It smells the strongest around the right rear wheel well. But not by the exhaust at all. The thread seems to suggest that only 6MT have had this problem with oil consumption and piston rings in the engine. And i have an Automatic. I can't help but be concerned. Should i be worried or am i just paranoid? thanks guys.

Probably the normal smell of the 'G'. My 08 has a certain smell at times. Have never been able to figure it out but seems to have been going away lately. It may be dumping the condensate on your AC, but several others have noted theirs smelling as well. One thing that used to happen on another car I had is that it would suddenly fog up. It smelled as well at other times. On that car it turned out that there were pine needles, ect. blocking drains from the area where the defroster took its intake.

congrats on the LR. Take it to the dealer and get the test done. That part is still covered under warranty.

Hi, I own a G35 Sedan and am thrilled with my new ride. As far as having the oil problem checked out, how do I explain to my dealer what exactly to check for??

Tell them to do an oil consumption test. They have probably replaced more than one engine so they will know what you're talking about. Make sure you're in warranty though or they will make you pay!

does an oil consumption test entail checking the oil dipstick and giving a thumbs up/down? :P

after driving it for a few weeks i really don't notice a burning smell anymore. but i suppose i should take it to the dealer for an oil consumption test. But now im starting to notice all the little things that seems to bug everyone else. Seatbelt, soft paint, rattles, leather creasing...etc. But its okay because its an awesome car and i still love it.
