Girlfriend got a new VW Jetta - and I'm Jealous

Okay, calm down from the subject line - I know it sounds ridiculous to fellow G35 drivers. I know the G35 is the sexiest car on the road, and I still do think that. It has awesome power, an awesome exhaust note, and is fun as hell to drive.

BUT

It is seriously lacking in interior quality fit and finish! We just bought a brand new Jetta 2.5 loaded that stickered at $25,xxx (and actually bought it for $23,500). The thing is unbelieveable. It came with:
  • Heated Front Seats
  • Heated Washer Nozzles
  • Dual-Zone Automatic Climate Control
  • 6-CD/MP3 In-Dash CD Player with Satellite Radio (and three months free service)
  • Genuine Leather seats, e-brake handle, shift knob, and steering wheel
  • Multi-Function steering wheel with radio and hands-free Bluetooth Phone controls
  • Sunroof
  • 12-Way power adjustable drivers seat with thee position memory for the seat and mirrors
  • Rear-Seat Air Conditioning
  • Highline Instrument Display with Trip Computer & Compass, which displays current fuel consumption, average fuel consumption, trip time, distance to empty, distance traveled, average speed, and speed warning. It has two sets of this information; one for the 'current' trip, and one maintained until you reset it.
  • Six-Speed Automatic with manual mode and sport mode
To get similar features on a G35, it has to be an '06 (to get memory seats and bluetooth), and you have to spend about $38,000. The radio quality absolutley sucks in the G35 (as we all know). The G35's leather feels like cheap vinyl and the steering wheel feels like plastic in comparison. All of the materials are soft and plush to the touch and match up with eatch other perfectly on the VW. It's really hard to explain with words... the attention to detail is increddible.

This is all coming from a guy with an '05 G35 coupe with the revamped interior. It just makes me want to write a letter to Infiniti and tell them to take a $25K Jetta for a drive and go back to the drawing board on their Interiors.

If you don't believe me, go to your local VW and sit in a Passat or Jetta... then see what you think. I know the Jetta isn't even in the same class as a G35, but to be completely outclassed by a car that costs $15K less is embarassing. And don't even get me started on the available dual wet-clutch DSG transmission in the 2.0T model... it's the sweetest transmission on the planet that can shift in .009 seconds and down shift from 6th to 2nd in .09 like a damn Ferrari... something that I'm not even sure that Infiniti has on the horizon.

Would you toss aside the Jetta if a Saturn ION had the same options for less $?

I like the new Jettas. They look really good. Especially like the one in the commercials. White. Sport wheels (or whatever VW calls them). But you know if they put a 300hp engine in it, they would sell it at 35k as well, but then they would get into Audi territory and they don't want to do that.

That's not what I'm saying. It's the principal...

My girlfriend just got a JETTA and it outclasses a luxury sport coupe.

There is no way I would trade a G35 for a Jetta... but I would expect my G35 to at least be on the same level of interior fit, finish, and quality as a JETTA.

I agree, that white one looks pretty darn good. But it does have the 2.0T with a DSG transmission and with an upgraded software program pushes 250 HP and 280 lb-ft of torque... in stock form they give the G35 a serious run for their money in terms of acceleration.

BUT, it's still a Jetta and it doesn't make my jaw drop from the outside like my G35 does everytime I see one.

this is the result of the constant evolution of auto manufacturers upping the bar. remember, the g35 is a four year old car and reflects the standard back then. when the 07's are released, you will get the updated interior and you will be happy again

But at the end of the day its still a VWagon. Give it a year and it will be in the shop. I would never ever ever buy a volkswagon. Even if it was 20K

Yea, VW and Audi have a lotttt of electrical and mechanical problems. I've seen a lot of quality and consumer reports...Infiniti/Nissan is always around the middle/average while VW and Audi are more towards the bottom.

OMG was just going to say that. A decent amount of people I know have VW's and Audi's. There's always something wrong with them and it's so freakin expensive to fix too. Hopefully she won't have the same prob.
